Hurricane Ivan...

The USS Alabama will not do well. Neither will the submarine. 🙁 I've been there. It was very nice.

Good luck, Mobile.

On top of it, the surge is at high tide.

On the bright side, Q101 (a radio station up here in ChiTown) is calling payphones all over down there. If anyone answers it, they are gonna give them 10,000 bucks 🙂

He's up in Birmingham I think.

Would a "damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" be too tasteless at this juncture?

I'm farther north in Birmingham. We are expecting sustained winds from 50-70mph with gusts to 90. I have a lantern, plenty of water, batteries, a portable TV, gas grill, etc. I'm pretty prepared, but still hoping the trees in my backyard don't decide to hit my house.

Yeah, I've got that issue. There's a couple of trees out back I'm worried about. 🙁

Sounds like you're pretty set. Hopefully your 'net connection holds up. 😀

Oh, and the power.. lol

I was in Charlotte when Hugo went through in '89. I believe the winds were in the 70+ range at that time. It f'ed Charlotte up for months, some people for years. People went without power for almost two months, while some never lost it. Trees were piled on the sides of roads for months.

Good luck Mill and anyone else in the path.

Yeah, the latest report says several tornadoes have broken out in Florida and Georgia.

Hope everything goes well for you in Birmingham, Mill. I'm about 2 hours NW of you in Tupelo, but I think we're getting off pretty easy. I wish I could say the same for everyone on the Gulf Coast.

Power outages already occurring around Mobile and Bellsouth is having phone line issues.

Two killed in Florida from tornadoes spawned by Ivan.

I was without power for a week after Opal tore through Auburn...I've got a sinking feeling Auburn's going to look alot worse after this than it did after Opal.

I don't think this poor Historic old lighthouse will be there tomorrow! 🙁

Those skimpy looking legs will be no match for that surge!

Being a structural engineer and someone who designs and evaluates buildings for a living, I know there is no building code in the world that can protect against 135mph winds.

Damn wtaching video of this massive fscking tornado in Panama City. You can see power flashes.

Yeah, I was without power for several days during Opal, and I expect this to be just as bad if not worse.

Baldwin county may get the brunt of the storm and I read that they have no shelters capable of sustaining Ivan. People are being moved to other counties.

Imagine what Ivan will be capable of.

I just noticed that the bastid is turning NE in the last few frames.

Cheers!

That's exactly what I didn't want to hear....NE brings more of those winds and rain here and Auburn's drainage sucks (streets get flooded after a moderate rainstorm)
Wow, strong NE trend in those last few frames!

Interesting.
