Bummer! 🙁

I don't think this poor Historic old lighthouse will be there tomorrow! 🙁

Those skimpy looking legs will be no match for that surge!

Being a structural engineer and someone who designs and evaluates buildings for a living, I know there is no building code in the world that can protect against 135mph winds.

Aren't they building some completely round houses out of reinforced concrete that can withstand a Cat 5?

Seems like a good idea . . . . if you are subject to more than a major hurricane a decade.

Anyway, good luck! This is a nasty one . . . 🙁

and some of these comp predictions scare me
one of them has it going around in a circle for a second hit

Those errant plots should be dismissed. The TD will be blocked and thus stall over the Appalachians. This is going to be a major flooding event!

Cheers!

About 30 minutes ago we started having some really good rain and some gusts much more powerful than what we were having.

I went to go some kerosene for some lamps, and the roads are pretty empty.

Waves as high as 50 feet were measured 75 miles south of Dauphin Island. :Q:Q:Q:Q:Q

Good luck mill take care and be safe please. you are in for a wild ride

Just lost my Satellite for about 20 minutes, but I got it back. So far just rain and gusty winds.
Yeah. You've got a while before it really gets to you. It's pounding Mobile and Pensacola right now, getting ready to hit Brewton and Monroeville.. and then on to Montgomery.

It should be quite a bit more tame by then, though still damaging for sure.

There are ways to make just about any structure hurricane-proof (round or not), but cost is a serious concern. I think his point was that the building code never covers this type of wind force, which is true.

Good luck Mill and those directly north and on the east side of the storm. Tons of rain.

The west side of the storm disintegrated.

They closed pretty much all the schools here today and it's barely raining. Wussy Atlantans.

I think that's a problem with America in General. When I was in California this past February, it started raining a little bit and all of a sudden, there was a bluescreen on the TV with a red bar saying "Flooding warning test! Flooding warning test!". Bunch of wussies!

I don't think it was a bad move. The rain will not be the only issue, but the crapload of tornados that could be spawned off of Ivan.

Maybe I'm just cranky as I have a cold and my one year-old is running around the house like a tiny demon. 😉

That is pitiful to close schools in Atlanta.
