IVAN was a BS storm for the New Orleans area. It took me a total of 14hrs to get from there to Dallas. The most frustrating part was driving to Baton Rouge which is less then 100 miles away. It took more then 7hrs to reach the outer limits of the city because of the bumper to bumper traffic. I left at 1PM and didnt get to my destination until close to 4am. I think I will just have to weather the storm next time. Im sure a lot of other people in that area are saying the same thing I am. We'll probably regret it next time it happens though.

Rain is really coming down now. Getting some of it in sheets.

Millennium called me earlier today, he lost power at 8AM. I'm sure it will be out for a while.

I am in Columbus,GA, just on the state line of AL and 4 tornadoes just came though different parts of Columbus and 2 more north of here. Someone from Opelika said one is there too.

they cancelled school here in Baton Rouge early yesterday and for today and we didnt even get any rain!!!
Barely any wind. Oh well Im not complaining as I got out of work too!!

The Auburn LSU football game is still on however and its to be played in Auburnon Saturday!!!!!!WTF???😕

They closed pretty much all the schools here today and it's barely raining. Wussy Atlantans.

I don't think it was a bad move. The rain will not be the only issue, but the crapload of tornados that could be spawned off of Ivan.
Maybe I'm just cranky as I have a cold and my one year-old is running around the house like a tiny demon. 😉
Does he run around like a Speedemon?
😀

That is pitiful to close schools in Atlanta.

You do realize we (Atlanta) will be on the NE side of the storm. I would rather be in Birmingham. I hate tornados.

As of yesterday, they did not have an idea that the storm would track due north.

Had it tracked toward NO, you would hve been pleased that the precautions were taken.

Man, we really lucked out here in Central MS. We didn't even get a drop of rain just some whimpy wind gusts here and there. Too bad the coast didn't fare as well.

Now it's sunny and hot. Had Ivan made only a slight turn to the NW today would have looked totally different and I would be biting my nails and hoping some trees don't come down on my roof!

Found this interesting...

Oil rigs adrift
The Associated Press is reporting that at least five oil rigs are adrift in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Coast Guard said it received a report from Diamond Offshore Inc. that a 335-foot semi-submersible mobile offshore drilling unit, the Ocean Star 1762, is adrift and being pushed by heavy winds and seas about 230 miles southeast of Mobile, Ala. The rig had been evacuated and no one is aboard. There were no reports of pollution.

Diamond Offshore has dispatched two vessels to assist with recovering the rig and was providing the Coast Guard with updates.

The Deepwater Nautilus, another semi-submersible owned by Transocean Inc., reportedly broke free from its anchor and is also adrift in the Gulf of Mexico. A Falcon jet crew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Ala., along with aircraft from Transocean Inc. and Shell Oil, are searching for the rig.

Three other rigs that were drifting ? the Ocean America, the Jim Thompson and the jack-up Ensco 64 ? are either awaiting assistance vessels or have secured themselves.

I still am without power. I am posting this via generator. Somehow Bellsouth has my RT up, and Alabama is still up the road trying to get things up. I've been running my frig off my neighbor's generator since this afternoon, so I didn't have to throw out too much food. My grandparents are without power as well. The most aggravating thing is how hot it is inside the house.
