My sister reports that in Orlando, conditions have deteriorated to "breezy". It's weird that Cocoa Beach is getting hit harder now.
Seriously. I don't remember another hurricane that produced 55+ winds at the Port from that far away.

Total devastation in that vid of FT. Myers. I lived beachfront on Cocoa Beach growing up. I will never live that close to the water again.

^^ The Worst Channel drama-casters say that every time the wind blows or a rain drop falls.

It's gonna be the worst ever to hit the planet!!!! It's just the worst ever and ever.

Did you watch the video? o_O

I've been out in several hurricanes/tropical storms myself screwing around when I was much younger/dumber but even the worst of Gloria was nothing compared to that wind. It sounded like an evil freight-train.

Mike Seidel said they were in the building to escape the storm-surge but I think the 150+ mph winds would have blown them away like leaves if they had still been outside.

There are weather forums out there. One that I know of doesn't focus on storms. One barely exists. One is big on storms and egos of the members. Not a friendly place.

Actually I think a weather-forum would be cool but I doubt it would generate enough activity here.
Exactly the point, even at ATOT's peak I don't think there would have been enough dedicated weather discussion to support an entire sub-forum. I'm sure there's got to be at least one dedicated forum out there for weather geeks.

The r/hurricane subreddit is pretty active right now with photos and videos

probably the r/weather subreddit as well

That's only through Saturday morning. The Appalachians are in for a hogging.

Virtually every forecast for the mountains of NC is 5+ inches. We live on the high ground, so trees blowing down and taking the power out are our concern.

However, both grandsons are full time firefighters, and both are swift water rescue certified, and I worry about where they may be deployed.

My daughter lives and works in the Estero area. She and a friend drove in the friend's car to the friend's parent's house on the lower east coast of FL before Ian hit. They missed the main part of Ian coming through but she left her car in Estero. She lives on the third floor of an apartment building just of few miles from Fort Myers beach so her apartment is probably OK but the first floor must be flooded out. We expect her car to be flooded out and totaled and she's not going to be able to get to her apartment for a while or work.

Meanwhile we are in north Tampa Bay and have a place at Clearwater Beach. It looks like we dodged a bullet. I grew up in New Orleans and have been through at least a half a dozen hurricanes since the sixties but it's still scarey and a challenge making a decision to evacuate especially when you have a 94yo M-I-L living with you. Life is a challenge.

Videos like that are tough to watch. I wonder who those cars belong to? The owners must have known that leaving their car there, the cars would certainly be totaled? Did they just say screw it I will file a claim later?

There will be a shit-ton of used cars (with no "flood damaged" disclaimer) for sale in other states shortly.

So far so good here. Center will pass over my house shortly. The winds gusts have been 60MPH or so. Power has stayed on, so shoutout to FPL for hardening the grid around here after other hurricanes hit. Our power lines are underground so that helps too, since a tree can't fall on them and put out power to just a few streets. Which would mean it takes forever for line repair crews to get to it as it would be so low priority.

St. Johns River looks like it is going to hit record levels. Places like Jacksonville that escaped the the storm will still see serious flooding an areas. Due to the fact it is among the rivers that flow north.

Hopefully @ksheets will be able to report his area did okay. Probably lost power yesterday though. 2 million customers without power last time I checked.
