Winds still gusting to 50 MPH here in Daytona, the rains have subsided for now though. Stepped out at 2:00 AM after a tree limb hit my roof, heard an arcing sound as a big gust went through, some palm trees launched debris into the power lines which started a chain reaction. The ensuing sparking was quite a show, about 3-400FT of power lines took a full 2 minutes to self destruct!. Luckily, my house was not on that feed, only 5K homes without power as of 7:00 AM county-wide.

On her NW track Jax should really start to feel the core of the storm in a few hours as its only moving at 8 mph. St. Augustine is only 40 miles south of us. Its still relatively calm outside right now and the busiest weather showing on radar is on the western half which is weird.

Yea, that is weird, the NE quadrant is supposed to always be the "dirty" part of a hurricane, but Dorian seemed to exhibit the opposite. Wind speeds might have been lower, but certainly not the rainfall. Max gust's so far were 69 MPH in the greater Daytona area. Kinda weird being inside a shuttered house, you hear shit but you can't see anything, still worth it IMO, if your house does not have impact-resistant glass a pine cone at 60 MPH will wreck your day when it hits glass.

Meh.

Had the eye of Ike go over my house with 110+mph winds. It ripped the metal shutters and track off of some upper story windows straight out of the brick. Yet the only window that broke was the one I broke putting the damn things up in the first place. (Luckily it was just the outer pane that cracked)

I used to board up my house in Pcola and would never think of doing anything less as I've never had wind rated glass. During Ivan I could hear metallic objects tumbling down the street but couldn't see them. The next moring when I went outside there were pieces of the neighborhood grocery store roofing across the street but nothing major.

Dorian's movement is now NNW so its starting to turn according to the 10 am NHC advisory. I'm hoping that what we've got right now is as bad as it gets bar some heavy rain.

Would have been nice while golfing assshole would have sent condolences to the victims of Dorian
No way the "I won't have time to golf" president was golfing during a national emergency. 😱😵😕

Edit: I just took a look at the security cameras and its getting a bit breezy outside.

Here's an interesting product that gives live wind speeds anywhere, https://www.ventusky.com/?p=27.6;-75.8;5&l=wind-100m

Well, it's not the wind itself, but what's inside the wind. In my particular area, most of the pine trees were left intact as it was developed in the '70's, seemed like the right idea at the time, it's better for the environment and gives a more natural look to the area. Downside is that during these storms debris breaks loose and flies around, during Irma a medium sized branch broke off and slammed into my shutter, later, an entire tree failed and fell on the house. turns out that because the water table is so high here in FL pine trees do not need to invest significant root structure deep into the ground to find water, it's right there. Instead, they invest in outgrowing the competition by growing taller.

The President of the US deliberately falsifying an official report that affects the safety of millions of people... all because he didn't want to admit that he misspoke about something and then continued to make that same mistake despite being corrected over and over again. That's like me mixing up the names of my kids in the middle of a sentence and when my wife points it out I tell her she's wrong and start forging their passports to match my error.

This is normal behavior for the Republican party. Tens of millions of people will still vote for this kind of incompetence, dishonesty and complete lack of responsibility.

Does this village idiot not realize a sharpie-modified NOAA chart is going to make him the laughingstock (yet again). Moreover, his Alabama comment came AFTER the plot had been changed to possibly make landfall striping the FL coast, not plunge into it.

As long as some people believe his bullshit he'll keep doing this.

"Whoever knowingly issues or publishes any counterfeit weather forecast or warning of weather conditions falsely representing such forecast or warning to have been issued or published by the Weather Bureau, United States Signal Service, or other branch of the Government service, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ninety days, or both," 18 U.S. Code 2074

Shall we all hold our breath?

Well its after 4pm and Dorian was just a mere whimper here on the westside of Jax so I'm happy. 😛 We barely got any wind or rain here and the power only fluctuated two times so I call it a win. Those poor folks up the coast are under the gun now when the core runs ashore.

LOL I mean you can't make this shit up. What a dumb fuck the president is.

More in regards to the fake news map.

The interview is hilarious. The reporter asking "And that map you showed us today looked like it almost had like a Sharpie written"... and President Bumblefuck cutting him off "I don't know I don't know I don't know"...

Apparently the adult day care staff is finding it harder and harder to keep the 73-year-old toddler placated.

Well you can't prosecute a sitting president so I guess add to the list for when he loses in 2020.

Does the hurricane sitting off from the shore help keep its strength longer?

Technically yes, storm over water = gain strength. Usually if it's off-shore, some percentage of the hurricane is on-shore and thus losing power. I think in this case it got bumped from a cat2 to a cat3 for a few hours.

What if one day Trump decided to alter the information concerning a section of the country of a pending disastrous storm because it will kill a disproportionate amount of people that would not vote for him?

Exactly what would it take for all you immoral dirtbags to stop your support of this immoral dirtbag?

Looking a bit gloomy here in central NC--expecting a few bands of rain and wind gusts to 30mph...yet for some reason all the public schools around town decided to close (and idiots were lining up at Costco for bottled water and gas...)
