I have been waiting for someone to mention that it's not just Egyptian cotton or Pima cotton but the thread count that matters and weave, Percale or Sateen, that should be factored in, including whether it's organic, hand combed and Fair Trade insured. The highest thread count isn't necessarily the best for sheets. Durability matters.

I just sleep on an old cotton comforter because fitted sheets are job to fit on a mattress. I just throw it over mine. Or a beach towel over a leather couch. For me sheep is a function, not a fashion statement.

Crassus originated the term iirc. Though they were his own troops. I'll note that while horrible, decimation was 'only' 10% of the given group. Actual genocide is if course much more extensive.
