To clear things up, that is a completely original photo - the only manipulation done to it was that it was brightened a little after the fact, but other than that, the image is entirely unaltered. The equipment list used for that shot is described in the blog post. The light source I used was an LED flashlight that I got for free from Honda.

So the answer is this: the image is 100% REAL, NOT a render or even a partial render. For those of you who like sushi, this is another demonstration of light painting.

Thanks for the welcome. I actually used to be a member half a decade ago (2000) when I was a frosh in college, when I had a whole lotta time to read all this stuff. Now I'm old, have an engineering degree, and learned that I don't know a damned thing.
