2kX felt more realistic (in everything but the gravity) but did so at the expense of precision and if I had wanted to make that trade I would have played any of the realistic shooters on the market who did it better. I liked the UT'99 shock rifle, sniper rifle and translocator how they were, and if it made the learning curve really steep then I thought that was a fair tradeoff.
UT3 extends dodging a bit, increases run speed, adds a hoverboard, ditches the jump/dodge and moves weapon balance back closer to '99 (welcome back shock rifle!). Most importantly for me, it brings back dodging as the primary mode of defense over the shield gun (and the bio can very definitely be dodged).
The increased jumping height feels more like rocket arena than UT and the side dodging is actually worse than in UT or UT3. I'll take the UT'99 dodge over the UT2kX jump-dodge any day.Originally posted by: lxskllr
Really? I would say that the 2kx series is the least realistic of the bunch. That's the big attraction for me. I like the acrobatics, and advanced dodge and jump moves that are possible.
The single enforcer isn't much to write home about but dual enforcers (with good aim) are a very well balanced weapon and a good counter to spawn camping. Use them in primary mode, and aim for the opponent's head.Originally posted by: lxskllr
The enforcers suck, and I'd rather have AR.
The UT translocator had zero cooldown, a very fast weapon switch time, great distance, and could be punted around the map with either the impact hammer or a shock combo. It was a big improvement for CTF as it made flag running *hard* and really required the entire team to work together to score against equally talented opponents. It also led to a very steep learning curve and a lot of complaints from newer players who were constantly getting tele-fragged, so they nerfed it in 2kX.Originally posted by: lxskllr
I've heard a lot of complaints about the 2kx xloc, but I haven't really used it in GOTY, so I can't comment. I liked it well enough, but I've never been a huge CTF player.
attaching a March 5 to its release on PC and PlayStation 3, the free Titan Pack will add 11 new maps for Deathmatch, CTF, Vehicle CTF and Warfare modes. An additional 8 maps come from the first Bonus Pack and Xbox 360 version of the game.
The Titan Pack will also add two new game modes: Greed, a "tug of war"-style mode, and Betrayal, a mode where alliances and teams change throughout a match.
Players will be able to use the Axon Stealthbender unit as well, along with X-Ray field and Link Station repair unit deployables.
Also expect to see new characters, turrets and a Titan mutator where, upon hitting a certain amount of frags, you become a 15-foot tall Titan, enhanced by every power-up in the game.
The Titan Pack will follow after the release of a massive patch for the game, which will bring Steam achievements support among other changes.

The beta version of it is nice and much needed for the PC

The Greed mode sounds very similar to Hoard in Descent 3, if anyone has played that.

Love this game....Awesome graphics, great weapons, just pure fun....good to relieve stress. But I think my 3 year old nephew like it more than me, in fact, I can no longer play it as much as I used to...I'm guessing he'll like the patch as well!

Yall can go ahead and forget about this; the PC patch doesn't have a server browser overhaul. Same stupid UI, still have to disconnect from server and wait 5 seconds to load, click, click, wait for it to refresh, and then click to connect to another one.
They can't say "Extensive UI overhaul" without doing something about this. As I was afraid, they have completely overhyped this patch. Goodbye, Epic, you pulled everything from the franchise that set UT apart from other games.
