Huge article on Crysis2 in PC Gamer. Says "most advanced game ever"

Does that say "Release December".. as in December 2010?

I thought Crysis 2 was a 2011 release... woohoo!

This reminds me that I finally bought Crysis (Maximum edition) in the Steam holiday sales for $13...need to invest some time in to it.

The pictures in the article remind me of the city levels in Frontlines Fuel of War. I actually had some good times there!

I enjoy the openness of Crysis, and that they worked hard to avoid the suspension of disbelief. I am not so sure about this game after reading that article though.

Yeah it does seem promising; I too liked Crysis quite a bit. I started a new game not too long about but haven't played it for awhile, should fire that up again soon.

And even those who really liked Crysis for the tropical jungle play, they should be quickly satisfied by the mod community. There are so many jungle levels made by modders for Crysis 1 that when the new, even easier to use editor gets released, all of these heavily experienced modders are going to churn out jungle levels like crazy. If you read crymod.com, they are basically foaming at the mouth waiting for the new editor.

I loved Crysis and Crysis: Warhead but I have no interest in this sequel. Crytek, I did want a "generational leap forward in graphics", "nothing stunning" doesn't cut it for me, and I do believe you guys chose New York because of "constraints and challenges." 2 million+ sales plus steam sales isn't enough. Just join Epic and Id because the "money's on console."

I'm personally more pumped about the updated Engine and highly revamped sandbox editor. If you check out some of the high rez foliage and textures people are making, it's amazing.

That engine can still do a lot, remember all we had in 2007 were 8800s and 2900s. The engine itself might not be a leap, but I'm sure the can squeeze more out of it and put those Fermis and 5800s to good use.

I'd be stoked if the use the DRM BF:BC2 had.

I played through Crysis and Warhead both a couple of times and enjoyed them both. I found them pretty immersive. I'm looking forward to Crysis to, but kind of saddened by the fact it wont be a PC exclusive. On the other hand my rig probably wont be able to run it anyway without a major upgrade...

I'm definitely looking forward to this game.

The city environment sounds like a good departure from the original game to mix the series up a little. The "vertical" gameplay aspect sounds great as well. I hope they design some interior as well, so you can weave in and out of street, to office buildings.

When I think vertical gameplay, I think Assassin's Creed. But while scaling up buildings and jumping off of rooftops was fun, I've always wanted to go "into" the buildings.

You're an idiot. It's running on xbox hardware from 2005. All we're getting is a watered down port that probably will look worse than the first game.

Maybe I'm also an idiot, because when Crytek stated how the engine works in regards to PC, Xbox, and PS3 hardware, I believed them.

Yea... There is no "porting" involved. All games are designed in the Sandbox on CryEngine3. The games aren't ported. They are "mixed down". Kind of like when producing audio files. It is what it is before you mix it down. When you mix it down, you select

.wav
.flac
.mp3 128kbps
.mp3 320Kbps

etc.

Obviously, some formats available for mixing down are lossless. Some are destructive. Mixing the game made in sandbox down for xBox360 and PS3 will be somewhat "destructive" meaning textures won't be as high res and the original texture, some shadowing might not be processed, etc.

But the PC will be "lossless" meaning it will still look as good, if not better, than the original Crysis.

No worries folks. PC gamers aren't getting a "consolized port". That's just fud.

You know.. that's simply not true. The games aren't "ported". That's the beauty of CryEngine3. It renders the game on the fly, using selective subroutines for graphics processing based on the platform.

Depending on the level this is implemented, it could work as a huge advantage to folks with mid range gaming PCs. You could possible get some things at a high quality and lower others to achieve the optimal performance / wow ratio for any system. I hope it works better than the standard high / medium / low settings.

This looks great, I'm looking forward to see how much they've optimized their engine. I liked the first games al ot because of the freedom they gave you when approaching fights. I would often reload and see if I could get through a fight while using less ammo or simply taking out the guys in a different way.
