So Tedford really had something to do with this? Otherwise why would he be investigated?

Geee, to make sure he didn't have any involvement with it?

Why would there be any investigation if it was just a prank? If I impersonate Al Gore to pull a prank, is he going to get investigated? Obviously he wasn't recruiting the kid so why would he lend him money with $500 interest?

the police are investigating because there is possible fraud (taking $500).

the NCAA is investigating because coach's or students can't say they are going to a school BEFORE they day of signing (which he did). if so it is a violation by the school and the kid. So they are investigating to see if he was really offered a scholarship.

The school district is investigating because if he received the money he broke the Armature status rule and if found eh did then the school has to forfeit the games he played in.

Now, with a probable criminal record, he is only qualified to go to U of Miami, Florida or Florida St.

not a shock.

to many problems with his "story". kinda figured a kid told a lie and then got in over his head and didnt know how to get out of it.

i kinda feel for him..just a little.

He probably told a girl or a teammate to impress them and it got to the coach and all hell broke loose after that.

funny how the link on espn's homepage calls him a "prep star" since he didn't get recruited to go to any d1 schools.

that sucks, unless the kid was a dick and deserved it :)

In my experience, HS football players are guilty of this until proven innocent.

No seriously, that sucks ass. But the fact that he held a news conference to announce where he was going to college doesn't exactly point to him as a shining example of amiable humility.

The kid admits it was a hoax.

Kevin Hart, a 6-foot-5, 290-pounder from Fernley (Nev.) High, apologized in a statement issued Wednesday - National Signing Day - through the Lyon County School District.

"I wanted to play D-1 ball more than anything," the statement said. "When I realized that wasn't going to happen, I made up what I wanted to be reality. I am sorry for disappointing and embarrassing my family, coaches, Fernley High school, the involved universities and reporters covering the story."
