Because be it in 4 or 8 or 12 years from now, Republicans will regain control of Congress/Senate/White House and without filibuster stopping their agenda will be extremely hard.
Honestly I am very cool with this idea.
They didn’t have the votes to kill ACA but let’s assume they did.
Whole bunch of Democrats take the floor talk about importance of healthcare (see 2018 elections about that) eventually pass out or leave to floor to pee.
Republicans repeal ACA then everyone’s medical bills go up or COVID 2.0 hits or whatever.
They would then either be forced to do something or be held accountable. Doing something might actually last because more than one party would be involved.
I am all for majority rule, I like the idea of a talking filibuster, I like the accountability it brings as opposed to what we have now which is some nameless person sent an email to the clerk last night this legislation is now on hold. If sending that email turns out to be a shitty call they all stand there like “who me? I didn’t do anything”
If it is a bad idea stand the fuck up and explain why it is a bad idea, have your words go on the record so we can all see them, if your only goal is to slow every piece of legislation down and grind government to a standstill, rest up fucker because you are going to be standing and talking and getting very little sleep.
