why does everyone want one? isn't webos dead? what can anyone do with it besides being a web browser and mp3 player, no new apps.

people on sd are going crazy over this, seriously crazy.

I think now it is more about the hype, a lot of those people probably don't even know what they are buying. Rather than researching alternatives, they are just pulling the trigger on what they missed out on at the liquidated price.

Insight had it for $450(16) and $570(32) IIRC.

I work at a fairly large privately-owned electronics/appliance store. Employees were given notice yesterday that our store had a stock of Touchpads, and we were finally authorized to sell them at the firesale prices, which were available to employees. Within 20 minutes of the email going out, the entire stock was sold out, I think entirely to employees. On my way past the ruckus, I overheard this conversation between a random guy in repair department and a Touchpad purchaser.

Random guy: What's the deal with that thing? I saw the rush, is it that good?
Touchpad guy: I have no idea. But it's a $500 tablet for $100.

I'd venture a guess that maybe a quarter of the people knew what they were buying, the rest just followed the hype generated by our fast-moving gossip machine. I expect the other three-quarters to be selling them on ebay w/i the month....these are people that are not buying to root, won't know to download the available OS patches, and were generally expecting to get an "iPad" for 20% of that gadget's normal price, and will be quite disappointed when they find out webOS is not all that.

I have no doubt that there will be a large second-hand market for these in the near future.

In stock form, a simple internet device for the kids/the shitter/have around the house to check Facebook, stream music, etc.

In hacked form, will eventually be an uber cheap Android tablet. It's hard to beat at that price - the only thing that even comes close is the Nook Color, but the HW specs for the TP beat that.

WebOS still has the potential to be sold/licensed off to someone who will actually do something with it as well.

Bite Me!!😎

Well, I bought mine at full price on Saturday at BJs Warehouse. On Monday, they dropped their price and I was able to get a $300 credit to my cc. I asked if they had any left and they said no one has any. I guess each store didn't have a lot and was told employees bought most of them.

Thinking back, I should have bought them out since I could always return them if they didn't drop their price.

anybody know how to pay by CC with paypal, i select it at payment phase and they always ignore this request and force me to use bill me later, draw from bank acc, or paypal balance?

Check the PayPal site, I know I added my CC to my PayPal I believe and PayPal simply does the charging through them instead of giving the vendor my CC information. I know Ebay does this.

So how do you get deals like this without being spammed on your cellphone? And obviously without checking every hour of every day.

It's a pretty nice screen, so for 100 dollars I'd definitely pay for a web browser and e-reader

There should be a a 'change payment method' hyperlink somewhere before confirming payment... Those bastards really don't want you using a CC.

Just wondering if any of you who made your purchase through Amazon/onSale have gotten any updates yet?

Shipping Soon - if they cancel this late in the game Im never ordering with them again. If they would have cancelled hours into my order I would forgive but this late they certainly prevent you from getting one from anyone else. Not forgivable.

The OP referenced a Paypal Balance; AFAIK if you have a Paypal balance you HAVE to use that balance amount first; if the transaction zeroes out that Paypal balance, THEN you can use other payment methods

Thanks. That's my feeling on this - if they don't have the stock, then fine - just cancel it; but don't leave me waiting and passing up other chances to buy from another retailer....

\still got my fingers crossed...

Even my toes crossed. I haven't heard of anyone from OnSale getting a delivery notice or confirmation yet hopefully we get some news by end of today.

About same chance as winning the lottery. I think I read on SD that they had less than a hundred in stock and received tens of thousands order.

I think OnSale is waiting on HP to give them more stock to fullfill orders. This might happen tomorrow. If not, they will start to cancel orders.

Not sure how accurate this is, but here are some zip code searches for best buy instore availability.

16 gig

32 gig

Only 1 store has availability near me, and it's too far away to bother.

Some of you are confused and more sadly pissed that people who could care less whether or not they know enough about tablets bought some touchpads? We're talking about touchpads, not some nuclear weapon. You check email, you browse, you play a game here and there, it's not rocket science.

Sow what if they bought one. If they don't use it they can always hand it over to their kids or give it away as a present. And again, it's a tablet...a device people use for SIMPLE tasks. Being a dead/unsupported changes absolutely NOTHING when the devices already works for the tasks above.

If you got on the deal congratulations!

I think you're probably right -- onSale is trying to get stock to fulfill orders. At any rate, I placed my order with them late in the game Sunday evening so I don't expect that order to get filled. Oh well, at least I got one.

If you have another chance, pull the trigger. onSale probably won't be able to get the stock to fill all their orders, if any at all. And if they somehow magically do come up with the rumored 90,000 Touchpads they need to fill all the orders? Well, you'll have an extra one to gift or sell.
