Integrated AMD graphics plus x86 makes me think this has to be an AMD semi-custom part...

I only call it semi-custom since AMD hasn't talked at all about hexa-core laptop CPUs... I wonder also if there is some funny branding business going on calling it hexa-core...

I remember AMD saying at the time of the current gen console launches that part of their strategy to get more companies using AMD tech is to no longer require any AMD branding of said tech.

I guess it's spreading to PCs now too.

Bloody hell. Beema with 12GB of RAM? Calling it a "hexa-core" because the integrated graphics somehow count as 2 extra cores? This is utterly pathetic. HP have sunk to a whole new low.

Its a beema 4 core with a 2 compute core gpu. It is one of those A8-6410 chips I made a thread about a few months ago. So yeah, 6 cores, in someone's sick and twisted little world of disinfo. In our world, this machine is better know as a dog. Steer clear.

That ad says alot. Look at the outright lying. "...equipped with 6 powerful cores for lightning-fast processing, in addition to four CPU cores and two compute cores..." That is an outright lie. Also notice that it is priced directly in competition with an intel i5 notebook, which would utterly destroy this thing. Why do they do that? And to top it all off, there is also an atom machine, for $379!!! On that same page! The atom SoC is this things proper competitor, but look at the prices!! The only reason this machine isnt also priced at $379 is because they are absolutely trying to mislead the customer with FUD in the hopes it can score a good sale. It is disgusting.

I wouldn't go that far. Not worth $650+, surely, but it's a good chip for a cheap machine.

Wow, just wow. I wonder if HP is going to advertise those APUs this way in the USofA too?

Well, next time they should count each Steam Processor separately and advertise it as a 132 cores :p

No wonder why Kabinis shipments are lower than expected, $579 when Intel Pentium (ATOM-based) is at $499.

Well, you have the option to go 12GB for $650, that is exceptional o_O:p

The reason is the i5 4210U (In the picture.), not the Atom. The Atom also got a 15.6" screen, not that it helps anything.

Both Atom and Kabini/Beema are hopeless oboslete chips. And adding false marketing on top doesnt help.

I'd like to get IDC's take on this. Could it be that AMD's own branding is now seen as "toxic" to OEM sales, and is no longer bringing value to the table? So now OEMs are resorting to own-branding for components like CPUs?

Do they think your average consumer will be fooled by this? (Probably...)

The question is when the first lawsuits and sales bans appear.

Try read the Hexacore definition. It doesnt help HP in any way legally. It only makes the entire Hexacore part even worse. Essentially they claim its a hexacore PLUS a quadcore PLUS 2 GPU cores. That leaves no hexacore at all and a GPU core to little.

Why not? NVidia does, now.

Because its misleading and illegal. The issue begins when you say a CPU core is the same as a STEAM or CUDA core. Or a compute unit for that matter. Individually you can more or less call them what you want.

I think AMD should start marketing CPUs by the size of their largest cache level.

So an FX-8350 would be "a 16MB CPU".

Then a Kabini would be "a 1MB CPU".

And Intel's Core i3 Haswells would be a "3MB CPU" or "4MB CPU".
