lol...
home VG driving setup $1200-1500.
real "racecar"* $5k-100k+ *real road racecars, depending on how you define them, usually start well into the tens of thousands up into hundreds of thousands in pro level. Even miata class racers are usually $20-60k last I checked (friend had a miata and RX7 race team along with 600cc SS motorcycles too)
Track time $1000-$20,000+/day depending on location/insurance/crew/wear and tear. Although a few RARE places do allow you to bring your own car on the track on special days. Good luck getting insured. Unless you are extremely fortunate enough to be able to drive over to the Nürburgring... I remember looking into track rental costs at Leguna Seca a while back. It was something like starting at around $12-16k for 1 session for basic minimum features. You have to hire crews and ambulatory services too.
Back on topic: How does the pixels look close up? (within 5 feet)
That is one thing that really deters me from using a TV as a monitor. I would really like to though for my bedroom, monitor double as a TV. I was planning on using a HannsG 28" but I wouldn't mind using a 42" TV for a little more money if the quality was acceptable as a monitor.
