lol...

home VG driving setup $1200-1500.

real "racecar"* $5k-100k+ *real road racecars, depending on how you define them, usually start well into the tens of thousands up into hundreds of thousands in pro level. Even miata class racers are usually $20-60k last I checked (friend had a miata and RX7 race team along with 600cc SS motorcycles too)

Track time $1000-$20,000+/day depending on location/insurance/crew/wear and tear. Although a few RARE places do allow you to bring your own car on the track on special days. Good luck getting insured. Unless you are extremely fortunate enough to be able to drive over to the Nürburgring... I remember looking into track rental costs at Leguna Seca a while back. It was something like starting at around $12-16k for 1 session for basic minimum features. You have to hire crews and ambulatory services too.

Back on topic: How does the pixels look close up? (within 5 feet)
That is one thing that really deters me from using a TV as a monitor. I would really like to though for my bedroom, monitor double as a TV. I was planning on using a HannsG 28" but I wouldn't mind using a 42" TV for a little more money if the quality was acceptable as a monitor.

As somebody said in the evga 9600gt thread "misinformation FTL."

http://www.nasaproracing.com/
http://www.scca.org/

Educate first then come back.

I am not talking wheel to wheel ALMS racing or some nonsense, just simple trackdays and autocross events that average joe can attend with any average sporty car or better. A track day in a bone stock crap tire stock suspension RWD sports car is better than any video game experience you could possibly setup, it's that simple. Then there is always karting but I wont even go there. As a random note, the track days I take my 240SX to are $80 localy.

On Topic: Anybody else do the direct tv, PS3, HTA combo thing to increase the discount? Where are the super deals on the projectors anyway?

TV cost was $625 after all discounts applied (HD advantage and Surround Sound, Coupon, etc.)

I think the TV is fine in terms of overall quality. It's not perfect, but I enjoy it so far. Esp. for the cost.

HDA is only for TV's $999 and up... you got way lucky if you got that to fly... My salesperson offered it, but took back the offer when they realized it was only $749...

I did get the 12% to fly after taking my receipt back to a couple different stores (didn't get it on the first try, second times the charm!) I also got the 3 free blu-ray movie pack, and posted it on eBay. I might still try to see if I can get the $250 gift card, but I bought it before the coupon came out, so I doubt I'll have much luck...

...as it stands, I paid $660 + Tax ($39.6) + Warranty ($99) = $798.6 OTD with 3 free blu-ray promotion (89.99 value, selling for ~$35 + shipping on eBay, after fees) = $758.6 OTD

If you already have such things and are just loaded, I hate you :p

Also, so this thing really works well as a PC monitor or not? Still confused on that one. Seems like a smoking deal for what it is.

Makes me wanna go home and play some right now, LOL!

BTW here is what i am using my 42" HP LCD for --- HERE

Things look way better now as I got the seat platform built and a new table for the LCD built this w/e. They aren't finished products but they are in place and working well. Also routed and tied up 90% of the cables so its much neater now.

Love ya too man!!

Well here is the scoop on the set up (and no I am not rich at all ... wife, 2 kids, 1 income family) -- bear with me here as this will take explaining, LOL!

Wheel -- x-mas gift - $0

Forza 2 -- had it already - $0

XBOX 360 -- bought locally with a bunch of games for $390
***sold off all the games and accessories and got to keep GH II that came with it. I also downgraded my PS3 from a 60gb to a 40gb. The 40gb came with 20+ BRs. I sold off all the BRs that came with the 40gb. After all was said and done I had a 2nd 360, a 40gb PS3, 2 BRs I didn't have, and GH II --- total cost -$100 (I made $100 on the deal)

Playseat Evolution -- $199 from Amazon -- bought with Gift Certs that I got at a discount (about 10%) -- total cost $180 shipped

Pioneer Surround Sound -- $129 from Wal-Mart

Cables -- had them already -- $0

Buttkicker Gamer - $69

42" LCD - $660

Lumber/Screws for the platform and TV stand (not pictured yet) -- $60

TOTAL cost on this setup = $998 (add $99 for the wheel if you want more accurate #s)

I could have saved a bunch of $$ going with a different TV or doing this with my existing TV and existing XBOX but that wasn't what I wanted.

Anyway if you like to race then its worth it, if you don't then it's a waste of money. You could easily do this for as little as $300 ($99 for the $199 for the chair) and that's it.

As far as real racing goes ... sure I would love to do that but it is very cost prohibitive. I have $1000 in this and can race whenever I want and stay home to do it. Same thing ... nope but it will have to do for me.

Anyone not having luck with the coupon needs to try this (it has worked for others) ...

Buy the LCD for $749 at the store that has it.

Wait a day or 2 and take your receipt to another BB (or the same one for all I care) and go to CS. Explain to them that you forgot your coupon when you got the LCD the other day and the sales guy told you if you brought the receipt and your coupon into CS that they could rering it and apply the coupon.

I have done this before and I know it works. It is a YMMV of course but its worth a shot if you want the LCD.

I'm having trouble getting the price match. I paid $900 or so because it was listed as $1200, and this was the only one left and the guy wanted to get rid of it, but he wouldn't go lower. Also, would not let me use any coupons. So, I now want to see if I can price match to a store that had it for $750, even though all the stores in MA are sold out.

I'm having trouble getting stores to check their inventory and prices. What exactly is the model I should ask for if it is in stock and how much it is when I call?

You can call any BB store and politely ask the CSR to look up SKU # 8483704 in their district or by the city.

Some have also had luck calling BB corporate and explaining that this item is on clearance at other locations for X price but you paid X price and would like to get the price you paid matched to the cheaper price. Sometimes they will authorize this and then give you a case # to take to the store. Once there explain your situation and then get the store to call into corporate based on your case # and see if you can get the PM -- THIS IS A YMMV!!!

Also if the above does not work (for some it doesn't) then push corporate some more as many folks have at least gotten a BB gift card in the amount of the price difference -- AGAIN A YMMV SITUATION!!

Hey, how do I set the TV up as 1920x1080P on for my computer? Using the VGA port it only lets me get to 1360x768

Do I need to get like a DVI to HDMI chord to reach that rez?

Got 2x for $844 each in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Planning on going back to 2 different stores and getting that 10% off coupon to work.

Yes. A DVI-HDMI adapter is what you need.

I can understand why they'd limit the VGA connection to that lower res. VGA cannot handle 1920x1200 well at all.
