Damn, how far to the nearest anything? What's the drive to work like?

Too much dryness.

I like greenery.

But a nice view (albeit acquired taste indeed)...

That's about 8kms from Merredin (nothing in between except paddocks).

Merredin is almost three hours from Perth (~280km).

Not my place, mate's folk's place (they work in Merredin, so a very short drive to work, and you'd be unlikely to see another car on that drive ;)).

Taken directly looking out the front door
Taken from the left looking out over the road

This was where I lived in West Virginia. Now, just picture a boring neighborhood with houses, cars, etc. :(

Yeah, that's a pretty terrible view. Sorry OP, virtually any decent mountainous region will offer views a million times better than that.

I'm with dug on this one, I love that kind of scenery. When I went out to Arizona and Nevada last year I just loved it and I really want to move there some day.

It's a completely different kind of landscape :p

YOU may prefer a mountainous view (and I'm not saying I don't), but that doesn't automatically mean that ANY other type of landscape is 'terrible', and that you can't have an appreciation for it :p

You may prefer the Stirlings:

Looks pretty depressing to me.

How so?

Rolling golden paddocks on a beautiful sunny day (and indeed landscape of any kind) don't make me want to curl up in a ball and cry like a little girl, so I find that attitude hard to understand ;)

It looks barren- like there's a whole group of kids waiting off camera for the Red Cross to show up with bags of rice.

Here's the view out the front door of a cabin we go to a lot. See the difference?

Nah he has Mel Gibson to protect him.

What you don't know is that under that face mask is a yamika, which is why Mel hates those guys so much.

Makes me want to hop into the Interceptor and hunt down the Lord Humongous. ;)

Edit: Wow, I hadn't even read the two posts above mine!

So he's supposed to enjoy his luxurious view of suburbia?

Not all of us have anxiety attacks when we can't see something that reassures us that a shopping mall can't be far away ;)

LOL!

Yes, I've become an urban slut in recent years, maybe I'm just compensating for my childhood & youth at a farm in no man's land.

Edit: and you should mind the fact that we did not have the internets or cable TV back than. Sex with neighbours daughters was the only form of entertainment.

I grew up in the country and spent my uni holidays working on the farm, live in the city now, but I escape when I can ;)
