If you like asian chicks UCR is alright....better than alright actually....
Lol. Even the girls are rejects. I have to lower my standard because of asian girls in riverside. I like UCR last year because they have fast internet but eversince they capped it, I'm not sure what to praise UCR for. I guess I have to study.

Girls at UCR are a lost cause... I have to agree that my standards have sunk to new lows. When I was at UCLA on a visit all the average looking girls there were super hot to me. Thats really pathetic.

Last year TDY2KN01 and I rapped the bandwidth. Both us ran FTP's and I ran public game servers for half the year. I also uploaded on Kazaa as much as possible. Good times, good times.

I decided to go elsewhere. USC, here I come!

Our mission is done Dev. We can sleep easy tonight knowing that we have saved a child from the gripes of hell.

ROTFLMFAO! Watch me get rejected by USC.

Say goodbye to 40g's a year. That is, if you can get in, unlike myself :(

There are many variations to UCR, but they all mean the same. I'll post some of as they cross my mind between thought cycles.

Well, there is now a sushi bar and a Togo's Sandwiches at the university village. Too bad I wouldn't hang out there, though my bum ass only lives across the street from it.

University Village = 2 Starbucks, Del Taco, Denny's, quizznos, some net cafe, indian food, bbq, chinese food, juice bar, movies, ben and jerry's, some overpriced italian place.

LOL calm down dude, a $6 buffet is not something to get all excited about.

Anyways, UCR ain't so bad. I did do a lot of driving out of Raverside while I was going to school there tho...........

The good thing about the school is that financial incentives are easier to get there, the comp isn't as tough as other schools. :)

I'm an OC/LA transplant now working in the 909. It's really not that bad. 3 out of 4 seasons the heat/smog is not bad. You're an hour from all sorts of good stuff by freeway. Houses are affordable. It's great if you like to mountain bike, go off roading or golf.

I don't know if I'd like it for college, but it's not so bad when your in the next phase of life. Not everyone wants to spend $300-400k for a crappy old house in OC.

LA is far worse than the 909 imho.

Wow, what a timely thread. Today, in the Los Angeles Times California section (registration required to read articles), there are two articles about UCR. One is about the new UCR chancellor and the other is about UCR is "Fed Up With Being the Consolation Prize for Students." You may want to take a look at these articles if you can.

"the students who apply here are dying to get into UC Riverside, for all sorts of reasons."

Many are also dying to get out, for all sorts of reasons.

As it stands, the school accepts anyone who meets UC standards,

Dev and I got accepted and we are morons.

The average SAT score for high school seniors admitted to this fall's freshman class is about 1120 out of a possible 1600, versus 1333 for UCLA.

I didn't even break 1000 and I took the SAT's twice.

The university's research reputation lags the other UCs as well.

An understatement of an understatement.

Even the many students and visitors impressed with the school acknowledge that it has been dogged by an image as gloomy as the smog that drapes the Inland Empire in August.

If you can call 6th graders perspective vistors.. sure.

"Most of them say, 'I think I can get into a little bit better school.' "

I bow to your ignorance!

"People want to go someplace where there's something besides just the school."

We have a Krispy Kreme, damn it.

Targets for expansion include the management school and a variety of scientific fields: agricultural genomics, environmental and computer science, chemistry and nanotechnology.

I'm in Computer Science. I'm in trouble.

I have to remind myself everyday not to dwell on the subject.

I'm seriously considering taking summer classes at UCI next next summer just to know the campus there. I'm just afraid it's going to cost uber money to live there for a scant 8 weeks.

If you hate it there so much, what steps are you taking to transfer somewhere else?

I am beyond redemption, sir. =(

-psianime

Did you even try? It's really not that hard to transfer. I thought about transferring out to another UC school and was worried my grades would keep me stuck in Riverside. In the end I decided not to transfer but I was accepted to transfer to UCI, UCSB, or UCSC.

No use staying there if you hate it so much.

I entered UCR in the fall of 1998... transferred to UCSC in the fall of 2000. I spent 3 quarters actually at UCR (f98, f99, w00)- I dropped out after my first quarter (f98) to go to Mt. SAC in the spring, and Mt. Sac/Fullerton JC/UCI in the summer, returned for f99 and w00, and went to UCI through the Inter-Campus Visitor program. Needless to say I didn't like UCR too much. I then left in the fall of 2000 to go to UCSC.

Now back to your topic. Go to UCSB. You won't regret it. My cousin is graduating from there in a 2 weeks or so (he's the Fundraising Chair for Lambda Phi Epsilon there) and he says that he's had a blast there. The area is really nice too, much nicer than Riverside. Not to be mean or racist or anything, but Riverside has a lot of ghetto ass people there. Those that go there should know what I'm talking about. And the girls at Riverside are b00ty. At least they were when I went there... there were only a handful of good looking chicks (I needed to throw that in cuz my gf just graduated from there in March :p ) I've heard that they've gotten better there, but I haven't been back there to confirm that. The area around campus has gotten a bit better, especially with the stuff around UV- when I went there, the whole complex with Fatburger wasn't there, and I heard that they just recently opened up a huge parking garage there.

Even then, you can't beat UCSB's weather and surroundings. They're getting up there in terms of academics (their engineering dept is supposedly really good) and you really can't beat the beach.

UCSB > UCR, hands down :) Thanks for reading my long post.
