How's Riverside?

How is UC Riverside? Does it have a good after school activities and strong campus involvements? How is it overall for those of you who attend?

Hot, smoggy, nasty traffic congestion due to too many people moving out there over the last 10 years, did I mention hot and smoggy? Oh, and lots of trailer trash types who bought houses out there because they were practically giving them away because nobody wanted to deal with the heat and the smog. Did I mention hot, smoggy and trailer trash?

I would rather go to SB. Beautiful setting, nice climate, lots of great hangouts on State St., hot babes who couldn't get into a really good school. SB is one of the few places I would like to move to if I could afford it and find work there.

Did I mention the intolerable heat and lung searing smog in Riverside?

Hehe no kidding, I'm from Costa Mesa originally (BTW riverside you get all our smog lol) and SB makes CM look like the deep south as far as housing prices go. Saw a house built in the 30's about 1000 sqft on about 5000 sqft lot and run down for 750K.

I went to UCR for a quarter and I highly DO NOT recommend it. Ended up leaving there and went to UC Irvine instead (MUCH MUCH BETTER!!!). If it's between UCR and UCSB, go for UCSB. Between UCSB and UCLA, there is no competition...UCLA.

eh, UCSB is a top 50 school. I think the weather/area might sway my decision (if i were deciding, that is). Only thing is, SB seems to have a lot of old people...

Old people with a lot of money, you mean. Hella expensive but I would move in a heartbeat. My house and lot in L.A. county valued at about $250,000 would easilly be worth a million and a quarter in SB.

Ask NuclearFusion. He pretty much sums it up with "IT BLOWS".

I'm buddies with Nuclearfusi0n at school. Riverside has some high points but mostly low points such as the lecturers, classes offered, and limited after school activities. I would personally go to SB. Congrats in not having to choose Riverside =)

However, Riverside is not the dump that everyone think it is. School is what you make out of it... thats what really matters. Plus, if money is tight, Riverside is a great place to go to school "cheap" for the first two years then transfer to another UC. The cost of living off campus here is a lot cheaper then the other UCs. If you need more details, feel free to PM me and we can discuss more things about UC Riverside.

Boo, im stuck at UCR too. Heck I work for UCR now, arg. Ce-Cert and SCS computer labs =(

But anyways, riverside is decent, its ok, nothing special, not a dump. I got a nice condo next to campus for $800. 2 bed, 2 bath, little backyard, a garage. People at UCLA could wish their rent was so cheap. Classes blow, lecturers are rather lame compared to others, TA's are usually from lower ranked schools, but they still love to teach and learn since they got the chance. The weather is excellent for walking to school since it never rains, never gets to be too cold, and it rains all of 12 days out of the year. Snowboarding is a little over an hour away at Bear Mountain Resorts. Food cheap and plentyful.

I came into riverside thinking its a dump. Ok, the school is still a dump, but at least the town is nice and the people are great. A bit smoggy. But beware, if you aren't from the area, and won't be going home often, you will find yourself in a world of bore on the weekends.
