Next time I go to Europe, I want to act like I'm from Canada so people don't give me flack for being American. How would I go about this?

Why would you do this? Americans are considered to be among the best tourists in the entire world according to travel surveys. Canadians are generally rated as worse tourists in a general sense.

But if you want to act Canadian, just pretend to have an inferiority complex.

link?

CoW posted it earlier and yllus just posted it now. Canadians are not known to be good tourists. I realize that many Canadians only manage to get through their day to day lives and survive their inferiority complex by believing that the rest of the world actually cares about and subsequently likes Canada, but that's just a foolish belief.

It's not that Canadians are bad tourists though.

I guess your attitude makes you the greater of the two evils eh?

What's my attitude?

You tell me.

I think what's happened is that Americans were bad tourists before (and of course many still are today). However, it was recognized and people made a conscious effort to change. However, Canadians view politeness to be sort of in their national identity and probably something they are born with. Thus, they never kept up with the times. I've never seen another group of people always say that they're nice all the time so much, not even Southern Americans where that stereotype exists (of being polite). Other people are supposed to tell you that you're nice, not yourself.

It's just my theory 🙂

Bzzzt. Wrong. This is in fact a dead giveaway. A Canadian can pick an American out in a bar a mile away because they ask for "Labatt's" or "Labatt Blue." To fool people, ask for "Blue." 😀

...which is assumed to be the case with each individual, based solely on that person's country of origin. Correct?

Not everyone in the USA or Canada follows the latest stupid fad or possesses "philistine tastes," yet everyone from the USA and Canada is assumed to be this way by many Europeans.

You would define "grounded in reality" as judging a majority based on bad personal experience then?

This is what drives me nuts, and it happens so much on these forums. Not just regarding Canada, but many countries. People meet a few bad foreigners and then go baout judgine the whole country on that experience. I have met many bad people, dutch, german, english and yes american. But by no means do I judge their country on a select few a$$holes. For every bad person I have met at least 10 good.

Where did I judge a majority based on 'bad personal experience'? No, I stated the truth that most people in the world just don't care about Canadians, despite many Canadians thinking that the world loves them. The truth is that people care as much about Canada as they do Peru.

I'm not sure how you think that I came to such a conclusion based on a few bad personal experiences. You must be blind and deaf if you live in Canada and don't see the inferiority complex.

Lol I dont mind if people don't seem to love us like you describe our deepest desire. However I don't see much more than your opinion on the "truth". You seem to dictate the worlds view quite admirably. Maybe you should run for government. :roll eyes:

Simple.

Don't ask questions. Instead say sentences followed by, "ey?"

Example:
"This thread is dumb, ey?"

Yeah, that makes sense. If you don't like Bush or your beloved Queen then you must hate everyone.
