You aren't treated like crap in Europe because you're American or Canadian. You're treated like crap in Europe because of your plastic, violent culture, with its philistine tastes and hunger for novelty.

People liked us in Italy...course that was before the war.

Frankly, I don't care. I'm going to speak English. And if you seem like you can't understand, I'm going to speak English louder and more slowly. If that doesn't work, I'll use hand gestures to explain to your French ass that I want more butter for my freaking croisant......and Coca-Cola at 10:00 AM in the morning...in a huge glass...full of ice. I'm gonna ask you were the Mc Donald's is because I freaking like greasy damn American style food as much as I like your girly crepes. And you're gonna like it...cause rude and obnoxious tourists like me are 50% of your economy. I'm not there for you. I'm not there for your stupid old buildings and sites. I'm there so I can come home and condescend to people who haven't been there. Frankly, I'd rather rent Euopean vacation and throw $2,000 down the toilet, but I may need a couple snapshots to prove I was there.

Hold open doors for people, and use pleasantries. Show some manners. You're bound to be mistaken for a Canuck!

Funny one of the first things my wife commented on when she moved to Virginia from Montreal is how polite people here were compared to where she was from.

Quebec is not part of Canada.

Why would you do this? Americans are considered to be among the best tourists in the entire world according to travel surveys. Canadians are generally rated as worse tourists in a general sense.

But if you want to act Canadian, just pretend to have an inferiority complex.

World's worst tourists @ BBC.co.uk
Research by online travel service Expedia suggests Brits abroad are the least well-regarded by foreigners.

They are the rudest, meanest, worst-behaved, most linguistically incompetent and least adventurous holidaymakers, the study published on Friday claims.

Categories included behaviour, politeness, willingness to learn the language, trying local delicacies and spending on the local economy.

Americans were judged the most courteous and the British the rudest, alongside the Russians and Canadians.

The Brits also seemed to make least effort in speaking the local language, a quality excelled by the Germans, French and Americans.

My country has let me down :( I have never been called rude before, in any country I have visited. ON the flip side, I met some extremely nice vietnamese and philipino (sp?) people while traveling abroad.

CoW posted it earlier and yllus just posted it now. Canadians are not known to be good tourists. I realize that many Canadians only manage to get through their day to day lives and survive their inferiority complex by believing that the rest of the world actually cares about and subsequently likes Canada, but that's just a foolish belief.

It's not that Canadians are bad tourists though.

I guess your attitude makes you the greater of the two evils eh?
