I don't get it. There were 3 posts total. And all she said was that she has to decide if she will take a good paying job that has a horrible commute. What is so bad here?

No.

"Cisco just offered me a job! Now I have to weigh the utility of a fatty paycheck against the daily commute to San Jose and hating the work."

She currently has a good paying job. Cisco offered her a job for unknown $, an assumably longer commute, and she apparently would hate the job.

She publically told Cisco to go pound sand, basically.

No, she said - I just got offered a job that pays a lot better, but the commute sucks and I don't think I will enjoy the work.

I don't see how that in anyway is an insult to cisco.

Would you say that to the hiring manager's face? No. Should you post that in a public forum? No. Is it stupid that people are obsessing over this situation? Yes.

Agreed.

But I point out that it sounds like she intended for it to not be public. Fail on her part there.

Was it stupid for a Business Development Manager from Cisco to broadcast this and create this buzz? I think so

doesn't seem much of a career there.

There are lots of companies monitoring twitter now.

My coworker complained on twitter that comcast seemed to be filtering traffic to the google network analysis tool. We both were unable to access the tool from our comcast connections at home.

6 hours after he twittered it, comcast got in touch with him to resolve the problem. Now it works.

So yes companies are following tweets.

Maybe my sarcasm meter is busted, are you being serious?

She's an entry level developer.

This is why I don't have any personal social networking profiles and avoid posting about work on forums.

Is this Tim guy some internet hardass who thinks he just saved Cisco from a bad hire or something?

Geezus are people that bored with the internet that this is a big deal????

No company wants to hire someone that'll hate their job, because that person will be likely to leave sooner. It's very expensive to hire new people - $10s of thousands when you include the reduced productivity when the new hire is getting up to speed. She clearly wasn't a good fit for the job, so Cisco is better off with someone else.

I guess that high-level position they were going to offer you has been flushed down the drain! :p

I guess I'm lucky that I love my job.

"Dear Internet Superheroes:"

Through some quirk of college recruiting, I would up interviewing for a summer internship with Cisco which I hadn?t actually applied for and didn?t know much about. It turned out that the job was rather outside my area of academic and professional focus, and when I was offered the position I made the decision to turn it down.

She needs to retake English 101 or use spell check.

It's amazing how many people worry about privacy being taken away by the government, yet have no problem with giving their privacy away to anyone using FB, MySpace, Twitter and their ilk. I have no accounts on these and will never have accounts on these sites. Too much can go wrong.

I don't "tweet", and have no interest in it generally because most people don't have anything interesting to say at any given time.

I guess you don't mind ignoring the difference between having the right to choose what information to divulge rather than having it taken from you...

Ooooh, conspiratorial. How were you involved? Shouldn't it have just been him? unless you guys are roommates or something.

I meant that if someone is going to talk about their paycheck as "fatty", then the company is probably paying too much for a worthless D-bag that doesn't deserve it.

WTF does calling your paycheck fatty have to do with deserving your check or being a D-bag?
Oh no, she used a slang word! If you have a problem with her calling a paycheck a "fatty" then you're seriously fucked in the head.

She publically told Cisco to go pound sand, basically.

Ya, I still don't see it.

I wouldn't expect a guy with the username "IHateMyJob2004" to get it :)

Someone should start Twittering about how much he hates his new job at Cisco and how many problems he has with his boss Tim and see how long it takes for Tim to take the bait.
