I'm trying to persuade my dad to start doing cardio daily, he's not biting.

He keeps saying, "when it's my time to go I'll go."

He plays a lot of golf during the year, with the exception of winters, and he owns a construction company so he does a decent amount of walking daily around his job sites checking things.

I want to try and persaude him to start doing some exercise, I can't even contemplate my life without him. He's 46 years old. Any ideas on some good exercise routines for someone of his age to follow? and any good way to persaude him? :p

Punch him in the shoulder till he starts to chase you around.

I do it not for the physical aspect of keeping in shape but rather for my mental health...it just makes my brain feel more relaxed and not cluttered...I don't really work out though...I just take a walk in the park a few times a week though...

exercise burns stress. my nightly walks keep me from going postal sometimes.

I could picture you walking down the street, calmly, until another walker\jogger enters your point of view. At which point you pull the AK47 off your shoulder and open fire. Then go calmly back to walking.

mention the stress relief benefits, also mention how easy it is.

your dad leads a pretty active lifestyle, as long as he's eating reasonably healthy he shouldn't be in bad shape.

It's hard, but you can't force him. He's gotta just want to. Tell him just 20-30 minutes a day can decrease his heart risks greatly.

you really can't force him just by telling him the facts....tell him what you told us....YOu can't live w/out him at this point and you are worried to lose him.....90% he'll start exercising.

have him leave his wallet and cell phonehome then drive him out into the country or up in the mountains. then leave him there so he has to walk home.

Should try two items and see if they work:
1) Picture of an attractive woman
2) A mirror

What he looks like may be porportional to his chances of scoring with an attractive woman.

good question, start with walking, just a long walk a couple times a week is a great start, bribe him, get him some walking shoes and a mp3 player, put his favorite songs on there, and find the best path. go along with him sometimes, if he isnt convinced by that much effort then give up and focus on yourself instead

Try to get him to come with you for walks. Maybe after awhile, he'll see the benefits and keep on doing it on his own. Or you could just keep doing it with him :)
