How to kill my beloved fish?

edro

Lifer
I have had Spike for about 2 years now. He is a beta fish. He has not been eating the past 3 days and now he is just sitting on the bottom and not responding to anything. His stomach is bloated looking and he will not move, even when I poke him.

He is ready to kick the bucket.

How should I finish him off? I don't wanna flush him down the toilet, because that would not fit him very well (he deserves better).

1. It is snowing up here and I was thinking of freezing him out in the snow.
2. I could put something in his water (lethal injection).
3. I could put him in "the chair" with 120v or something.
4. I could cut his head off on the concrete (I know it sounds brutal, but it would be the fastest way).

Anyone have any suggestions? I hate to see animals suffer, so the faster, the better.

THanks!

WAIT!!!! Don't kill him!!!! He may be just constipated. Don't feed him for 3 more days. Then you can feed him some fresh frozen peas. (peeled) That should fix him right up.

OK, looks like you want to be humane.

There are two ways to do this.

1) Before you gasp, this IS the most humane way. You have to smack the fish against a solid surfce as hard as possible. Death is instantaneous and painless.

2) Most people can't brgng themselves to do (1). I can't. The second most humane way is ICE water. Get the water as cold as possible and put the fish in the water. The death will be very quick and almost painless. Pretty self explanitory. Some people say the freezer is, but that is WRONG. Ice water is much faster and much less painful.

Sorry to hear that the fish has to go.

Before you do this, you might want to get medication for dropsy. That may be the problem with the Betta. He is getting old though. If he's been like this for 3 days, you can medicate for two days and if there is no improvement, then you can put him to sleep. Your Betta has about 4-7 days starting today left till starvation kills him.

Good luck,
Karl

You realize that he may be sick, and that he may be curable? Go to your local fish store and tell them his symptoms, they be able to sell you some medicine that will fix him up good as new.

He doesn't sound to "beloved" to me if you are just going to kill him without even trying to see if you can fix him.

He can't eat peas..... he is way to small. He can't eat peas also, because HE WON'T EAT.

I WAS at the petstore 2 days ago and he said I could give him some anti-fungis tablets. I did, and he is the same..... I can't stand to look at him flipping around and stuff.

You're going to freeze him to death? That's... cold. Give him THE CHAIR! 🙂 Seriously though, you might want to go down to the fish store and ask them if he's really dying.

1. He will eat the peas if you stop putting food in his tank for at least 3 days.
2. The peas have to be mashed up.
3. The employees at most pet stores know about as much about how to take care of fish as the employees at Long John Silvers. Petsmart is a specialized Walmart.
4. The same thing happened to my fish recently and this usually works.

Well, I couldn't take it anymore.....and the ice trick sounded good..... so I did it.

After I did it, I burried him in the flower garden (which is now burried in snow).

I took a video clip if anyone wants to see it: Goodbye Spike

And a pic of him afterwards: The Showing

If you think I am sick and demented.....how sick do you think humans are for showing a dead carcass in a box to hundreds of people, then burrying them in an airtight cage for 30-40 years until they decay away?

You should cryogenically freeze him (ie toss him in the back of the freezer), and wait until fish medical technology gets better. 😛
