That is a good idea!

don't know if someone's said this yet, but there's a certain group of people known as "veterinarians." Generally, when your pet gets sick, it's a good idea to go and see one; I'm sure with a little effort you could find one with a specialty in fish. I take my parrot to one with a specialist in birds (how bout that?). If your baby was sick, you'd do what? Go to Safeway and ask the checkout girl? Because they've got baby food, diapers, and medicine for babies! I mean, yeah! that's the obvious solution, isn't it!?

I had a goldfish get dropsy. She got better and lived 10 more years and had many baby goldfish before we moved and had to give her away to someone else with a pond.

My goldfish is going on 9 years!

This is the dumbest question I have ever heard.

Why in the world do you think it is ok to inflict death on an innocent animal?

Maybe that should be your question. :|

I don't think that a fish dying caused the outrage in this thread. It's the demented way it was handled, and the apparent joy taken by it.

He asked for advice on his fish, which he did call "beloved". An immediate response was given that the fish was probably overfed and just to leave it alone for a couple of days. That was too much trouble. Instead, he took the 'easy way out'??? by freezing the fish, burying the fish, and to top it off, taping the entire process to post on the Internet. That's just a little too whacked for me.

This thread is pretty much past its prime but I thought I would just add that tossing a fish into a cup of icewater is not the most humane way of killing him off. You're pretty much throwing him into shock and it's like having a heart attack.

The most humane way would be to stick them in a baggy or cup/bowl with water and leave them in your freezer. The slow change in water temperature simply makes their metabolism slow down to the point of death, which is pretty much just like falling asleep.

Oh so you think that having a fish 2 years means that it's only worth 2 bucks since that's what you got if for?

If so, then do everybody a favour and don't get yourself a fish!

Bleach suffocates them which is exactly what will happen when you confine it in a plastic bag and throw it in the freezer.

He is ready to kick the bucket.

How should I finish him off? I don't wanna flush him down the toilet, because that would not fit him very well (he deserves better).

1. It is snowing up here and I was thinking of freezing him out in the snow.
2. I could put something in his water (lethal injection).
3. I could put him in "the chair" with 120v or something.
4. I could cut his head off on the concrete (I know it sounds brutal, but it would be the fastest way).

Anyone have any suggestions? I hate to see animals suffer, so the faster, the better.

THanks!

I would first like to think the Acadamy for the nomination for Thread of the Year.

I would also like to say that a 2 dollar fish is as worthy of a trip to the vet as any other pet. People get dogs and cats for free all the time and spend plenty of money on their upkeep and well being.

I am not a vegetarian. I have no problem with killing an animal for food. (I will boil a lobster faster than you can say Lemon Butter) If edro13 had eaten his fish after he killed it, I would have had no problem. I also have no problem with an animal being put down as a last resort.

Finally, I have no hard feelings for the poor misguided edro13. Everyone, myself included, is entitled to be a Jack*ss every now and then.

Would you rather take a bullet to the head, or freeze to death slowly over the period of an hour or so?

Did you know you can survive a shot in the head from a bullet?

Most fish are heterothermic (they can't regulate their own body temperature), as such their metabolic requirements are based on ambient temperature. The colder it is the slower their system runs. It should only take about 10-15 minutes before the fish essentially falls asleep due to the temperature drop. It's not painful, nor does it put them in a state of shock. It's just increased drowsiness til death. Sticking them in a bag of water for 15 minutes won't suffocate them either as someone suggested earlier. Infact most fish are shipped in cramped sized baggies when they arrive at your local fish shop, and they endure this for several hours if not a full day prior to being put into a larger tank.

You asked for an answer, I gave it to you. ;)
