PC's are not dead. They allowing much better graphics, more innovation and get faster every 18-24 months. And have much cheaper games thx to Steam and co.
ARM SoCs will replace consoles easily and very fast. Developers will go where the money is.

BTW: And with OpenGL 4.3 you can sell your game on Windows, Linux and Android. So a huge market opportunity for developers.

Starting next year with nVidia's Logan you get the same features even in smartphones and tablets. In 3 years from now you get the same GPU performance in a smartphone or in a tablet.

Consoles are dead. :|

Yes. Anything that is hardware locked is obsolete. Especially when it is equipped with inferior hardware to begin with.

Bluetooth KB and mouse work on some PS3 games. It's up to the developer to make it work.

So what is a cheap comparable retail PC? And what do those cost after adding a cheap graphics card? Make sure you include a bluray drive and software to play dvd and blue ray its not in windows. Wifi N adapter and a 50$ controller.

Once you factor in game pricing the PC is the cheaper option in the long run.
Wrong again.

I like my PC but sales are down big time. I'm not any market expert, just read the papers from this year. PCs are used for work mostly. Everyone used to buy desktops. I honestly don't know anyone who is not a gamer or photo editor that has purchased a desktop in the last couple years.

Here is game sales for week. http://www.vgchartz.com/charts/weekly.php
PC's sold half a million out of 5 million total games sold. That's 10% of the market. Madden sold twice as much on a single day. Where is the money that the developers are going to? Really says a lot about the PC gaming market, because there are far more PCs than consoles. Yet they are getting out sold by the OLD wii.

Shuttling information across the PCIe bus is not currently something limiting PC gaming performance. Also the PS4 does not have sufficient hardware to do ray-tracing in real time.

Well, at least not SVOGI at the moment. Epic had to pull that feature from the PS4 Unreal 4 engine, but it will still be there for the PC version. One could do ray-tracing in real-time on a PS4, just not some sort of full scene RT in real-time. IIRC, some devs do use small fast RT code within some shader routines for more realism.

Huh? New games are 60$ on any system. Unless your stealing them. Even then there are not many PC games. Even if you can find them for 50$, how many games you gotta buy to break even. Please show me the math. Numbers > opinions. Still waiting on someone to post the link to the retail PC that beats the PS4 for less.

There's no point for developers to waste time and money making exquisitely detailed and designed games when they can regurgitate the same military shooter/sports game/whatever and it outsells by an order of magnitude.

Just looking at PS3 and its very limited hardware resources and the beautiful games that came out if it despite, makes me very interested to see what PS4 can do. Its gonna be pretty sick visual games from developers who creates game just for the PS4 and polish it and fully integrate it with the PS4 hardware.

PC games are discounted often and you can pick up most new releases within a month for $40. If you're patient a $20 bill will get you a decent amount of games during a steam sale. Wrong again.

How its better.... it isnt

Yep it's simple, they think that developers will flock from PC to them. Fact is, some developers have expressed concerns with the power available. It has capabilities but is limited in the raw numbers so the stuff they can do with a game is more limited than a PC.

So while many will love the capabilities, a few will still build a better looking game for a PC.

Also if I am not mistaken, the first game that was $60 on PC was CoD: MW2 and it pretty much started the $59.99 pricing for us. No?

VGChartz never was very accurate, even when they "corrected" themselves every month once the NPD numbers were released. Retail numbers ignore all digital sales from Steam, Origin, Amazon, GMG, etc.

Besides, the thread title was "how the PS4 is better than a PC" not which platform sells the most copies of Madden.

It's not only discounts. There are hundreds of key shops which sell keys for less than $30. There are Steam, Origin and Co. sales which give you keys for little money. And there is AMD which is putting out thousend of keys for new games like Tomb Raiders which decrease the value of them.

Now PC gaming is very cheap on both sides: Hardware and software.

According to this PC game sales are up.

http://www.gamingenthusiast.net/pc-games-sales-up-230-console-game-sales-down-28/

Nvidia claims PC game sales will beat consoles by 2014 (I don't buy this one but they seem to believe it)
http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/...c-to-beat-consoles-in-game-sales-by-2014.aspx

Record year in 2011 and 2012 was even better according to the first link

Frys sells new release console games for 50$ first week. "Within a month" you can buy it on eBay for 40$. "If your patient a 20$ bill will get you a decent amount" of last years console game too.

If you are correct, why do PC games get cheaper over time? Because they are NOT selling well at retail. You don't discount a product that people are lined up to buy at full price.

Your right. I'm looking for Simcity that came out two months ago to play on my 1500$ plus system. I need the link to the 30$ key cause I can't find it. Till then I guess ill goof around with the *free* crysis/Bioshock that came with my 450$ 7970.

So a PC GPU does 2 commands of GPGPU at a time?
But the PS4 has Queues of 64? which is 32 times more than a PC's?

No PC for normal consumers, is able to do this:

64 sources of compute commands (asynchronously)
done alongsides Graphics Operations, without significantly impacting
the graphics operations going on at the same time
.

Will this have any effect on bitcoin mining? Imagine PS4 having Mhash output of 32x HD7850. PS4 mining farm FTW!

This. If you're going to count Steam sales, you can't just pretend that console games never, ever, ever go on sale. There are games that came out last month that you've been able to find at $40-50 retail at various stores (Injustice, Tomb Raider for example). And you have things like Best Buy giving you $20 in store credit for pre-orders of the most popular games.

Tomb Raider for me in germany: 22€ at ebay.
Bioshock Infinity: 25€ at ebay.
Crysis 3: 25€ at ebay.

Yes Sim City costs around 40€. But not everyone wants to play Sim City.

Yeah because those two games came bundled with video cards for "free". You can compare them to wii sports that was bundled with the will console. It was a $60 "value" but was on eBay unopened a week later for under 20$. Lets compare apples to apples, not free bundled games vs regular games. Take another popular game like battlefield 3. Insanely popular on all systems and not a bundled. Walmart PC 39$, ps3/Xbox 39$. No difference. Yeah you can find deals here and there for ANY system. In general the prices are really close so that is a poor PC v. console argument.

Well when the PS4 comes out it will probably provide better graphics per dollar spent. I assume it'll be around $500 or so, and I imagine it will out perform a $500 PC.

I can't see how PC gaming is a cheaper option, sure some games may be cheaper but as mentioned before, console games go on sale too. Of course it's easier to steal games on PC, but you can do that for a console as well if you want to.

Some people prefer to play on console, other on PCs, some play on both. It's just preference. A lot of people don't want to take the time/money to build their own PC - and a lot can't afford the >$1000 PC's that people on this forum have.

I'm just glad there's finally a new generation of consoles coming as I feel the length of the current gen has held back progression in game development. I probably won't get one myself, but hey that's my choice.

With a PC, you can actually make money on the side using it. Lean photoshop, HTML, do some photography work, illustrator etc. I don't know the percentage of people who buy a PC just for games and do nothing else. With a PS3 I know people who put in a movie sometimes, but for the most part when it's turned on it's to play a game. It's a little different in my view.

Console games go on sale yeah, but Steam puts some games on 50% off or more. Tomb Raided was $39.99 at launch but on Xbox 360 was $59.99. Right now LA Noire: The Complete Edition is 75% off($7.50). On Xbox 360 it costs $57.99($30 if you can actually find it in stock). That's just a couple examples.

It's gonna beat sub 1000$ PCs for a while. Yeah if you wanna build a 2000$+ rig with a 1500$ monitor its gonna be better. 7x the cost it better. Most people have 1080p displays already and for 4-500$ will get a dedicated gaming machine that they won't have to work on.

While I understand what you're saying, I think you're forgetting the fact that vast majority of people who have such PC are not just using them for gaming. We're also graphic artists, programmers, & etc.

Tomb raider was *again* a bundled game.
LA Noire complete is a 3 year old 10$ game with the DLC missions included. The DLc was avail 2 years ago for 15$. There were not many console versions made because it was already out and the DLC was already online. Your comparing old stock Xbox game price to a downloaded 3 year old game with the DLC. Way to pick and choose.

Obviously trying to explain this on a PC forum in the GPU section to people that have more $ in GPU's than average joe has into his entertainment system is not going to be popular with the fanboys.

So I just need to quit my day job to justify the price difference:whiste:

Who said that? Hell I've made a few bucks by retouching photos for some people. I didn't say quit your job I just said a console is specifically for gaming. It's simply a $500 game machine (assuming PS4 is $500). A PC can do a whole ton more and gives more return on your investment.

A bundle or not...you're making up any excuse you can think of...

It's still bundles but it's now $49.99 on PC. (steam price) It was cheaper at release than the console version. That's what matters. As for LA Noire, the game released in 2011. It still costs $30 new from gamestop/amazon when it's in stock.

That's the other thing, on PC you can find old titles for download all the time. Most console games don't get a digital version and the game can go out of print. Look at all the copies of Xenoblade Chronacles selling for $100
