ChrichtonsGirl, we have the exact same dimensions...cept I'm a guy. 😉 I know my exact weight cuz I had a physical last month.
 
im 6-4 and 170 was 6-4 140 last mounth i gained 30 pounds. And i could eat everything and not gain a pound. put me in your hands ill buff u up!

I would have to argue your statement that 25 & over is obese. 27 and over is considered a risk area for heart disease, & 25 is definitely considered the maximum "ideal," but being above 25 does not constitute obesity.

For example, I'm 74" tall & I weigh 205:

(205 x 704)/(74²) = 144320/5476 = 26.4

At my previous job, I weighed 185. I would like to return to that weight. But even now, I wear the same clothes I did then. My waist is still only 33". Yes, I'm bigger than I'd like to be, but I'm by no means obese.

According to this page, obesity is >30.

6'0", 170#, and that caculator give me a 23. I'm trying to drop a few pounds and get back to the point I was when I was 19.
 
That calculator is not even close. My weight hovers between 150 and 160, and if I punch in 160, it gives me greater than 25. As anyone who has seen me can verify, I am far from it. At 160, no one would even call me overweight.

It's a nice novelty, but it really has no useful purpose.

yeah, i'm obese. it's this belly i tell ya. and i don't freakin' drink either.
 
for that body mass indicator you would have to be a string bean to get in that range. if i hit my target 175 it'll tell me i'm near obese with only 2% body fat. yeah right.

Yes, women are allowed a higher BMI rating since they typically carry a higher body fat percentage than men do.

The tables are based on normal people, not body-builders & athletes. You are absolutely correct, if you have a lot of muscle mass & little fat you'll get a false high reading.

Thing to remember is it's only a guide. It's going to vary by person. You should be able to tell for yourself if you have a problem.

How does that BMI work if you work out??? I am a size 32-34 waist ~170-175pounds 6'1" and I was 22.5
Since I work out does that isn't that number a little misleading? My goal is to be 180 pounds, but according to the BMI scale I will be considered fat even though I will 'hopefully' be less than 10% body fat and 'hopefully' have a lot of lean muscle 🙂
 
I have to say that that calculator is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen.

It is not unhealthy to be so jacked that you weigh a lot. For example someone 6'3", 225 lbs -> a 28+ on that scale, OBESE. But, the calculation does not take into effect percentage of body fat or any other factors.

It may be entertaining, but useful? I think not.

Just my two cents.

BTW - I'm 6'3", 205, and 6% body fat.
