First you were upset that I was insulting the intelligence of the military. And then I made an argument that maybe people in the military really aren't that smart.

Now you are appalled at my contempt (as opposed to being mad at my asserting that military people really aren't that smart).

Shift the issue. I guess we don't have to worry that I have disproven your thermochemical nonsense. I guess we don't have to address the fact that George W Bush isn't terribly bright but yet you refuse to believe so regardless of all evidence to the contrary.

Now that I have beaten you in every respect you fall back to the last two conservative defenses: the humble greatness of red state people (and, by implication, the contempt of blue state people for those humble red staters) and more gratuitous insults.

You know one of the biggest lies of you conservative red staters? That you are self-sufficient in any meaningful way. The simple fact of the matter is that you suck down government money left, right, and sideways. It is us in the blue states who subsidize you and your ways - all of those bible thumping conservatives are getting their money from taxpayers in New York and California. The irony is that some gay people in San Francisco are giving money to preachers in the bible belt while those very preachers seek to persecute them.

Keep your contempt but start paying your own bills.

http://www.taxfoundation.org/taxingspending.html

So you think that you're smarter then the military people? Could you state your background to why you think you?re so smart? Not everyone who join the military done so because they can?t go to college. Most join because they?re willing to risk their lives to defend their friends, family and country. They?re the real heroes that no one looks to respect. We look at superstars, athletes, singers, etc., thinking that they?re smart, and calling them heroes. It?s sad to see what freedom have made people.

WOW he made a 1280 on the SAT!!!!

I showed up hungover and made a 1570. Does Bush want a cookie or something?

I believe this is called...uh..what's that word? oh yea, hypocrisy.

IMO, this really isn't an issue at all. If Bush was stupid yet he could still manage to lead this country in the right direction I would vote for him. However, even with all the intelligence in the world it still looks like he'd be leading this nation the wrong way.

You are not going to seriously claim that thermochemical process play a larger role in brain size than biological and physiological ones, are you?

I honestly don't even know what you are trying to prove anymore. George W Bush was an alcoholic and probably damaged his brain. He is not smart. Water is not an alcohol. Just give it up already, you look foolish enough.

You are a partisan hack who will never concede that Bush is anything but super intelligent.

And you have been caught lying and making things up numerous times.

At the moment I'm traveling. I'll be attending a certain type of graduate school soon though :)

Oh and the 1570 wasn't the score I sent to colleges ;)

A certain type of college... Interesting. And you didn't submit the 1570 to college. Could you give a little more detail on what college you'll ge attending and why didn't you submit your score? Please don't say yale or harvard.

Of course, as always, you try to answer a yes or no question with a complete and utter diversion to distract from the issue at hand. As always, I will ignore all your worthless information that you keep throwing at me to get me to duck away and proceed to prove that you're an idiot.
"To a limited extent yes", water is compressible. Compressible means that its density changes with pressure. Since the brain contains water, its volume therefore changes with pressure. End of proof. If this is too simple for you and you want me to throw out more wanton idiocy to mirror your own post, just say so. I have entire BOOKS of such information that you posted - completely irrelevant! I bet you'd cream your pants.

I know I am. Those people you talk about - ones who forgo college to join the military - don't kid yourself, they are a vast minority compared to people that didn't have very many other options.

The red state conservatives have repealed nearly every economic restraint that bolstered the middle class and have unleashed massive economic ruin on the mid-west. There aren't many jobs, there are no controls, no unions, factories are off shored, people are quickly driving wages to third world levels while the richest people laugh their way to the bank. They have voted for pro-business and deregulation as it pushed farmers off their land and bankrupted them. But god forbid those liberals and their pro-abortion stance - I don't care what economic cost it takes to teach them a lesson.

If you're from Flint, Michigan or central Kansas or a large swath of the red states and you don't want to work for low wages in the only factory in town you almost have to join the military. You red state people have voted to screw yourselves over time and time again. The military can't recruit in places of economic prosperity where people have so many other options.

My background? I graduated near the top of my class from an Eastern university with double majors in biochemistry and philosophy. I am currently in the process of deciding whether to go to medical or law school. I have a few other Masters degrees. On my MCAT, the SAT for doctors, I did better than 95% of the people. None of this is pertinent to the discussion.

Baseball players and entertainers aren't heroes - and I never said that they were - but if people didn't keep watching movies or buying shoes they wouldn't have the money that they do. It is more of the red state hypocracy - decry it but buy it!

No, it is not that simple.

But I will make it very simple for you: by how much? How much does the brain volume change for 10 isobars of pressure? For 20 degrees F?

How does this compare to volume changes from alcohol damage?

I am sure we are all waiting on your answers.

PS: I had these very questions for homework once, I know the right answer. When you do all the work you should come up with "Cyclo is an idiot who has no idea what he is talking about."

Besides, what is it that you are tying to prove? That Bush isn't stupid he is just atmospherically challenged?

It is that simple. The brain is made up of a mixture of compressible liquids and solids. Therefore, it is compressible. Period. The magnitude isn't important, as you never mentioned the magnitude in your source regarding how alcohol shrinks the brain. Oh, and an 'isobar'? It's a bar, chief. Isobaric is a condition of constant pressure. ;)

Again - what is your point? Are you claiming that George W Bush does not suffer from alcoholic brain damage because his brain could have been shrunk by applying pressure?

You are right about the isobars, my bad, I meant 10 torr of pressure.

No, the point is the same point that you've been avoiding this entire time. THERE IS NO CORRELATION BETWEEN BRAIN VOLUME AND INTELLIGENCE.

Sorry, but if not mistaken, you atomically submit all your scores to colleges when ever you take your SAT. They only take the highest score of each section.
Also, you must be going to a small no name ?m? college if you?re afraid to post it online. People will hunt you down and use it against you.

No, as I have said before, that was never relevant to my point.

My point is that George W Bush probably suffers from brain damage as a result of his alcoholic past. I have provided evidence for this.

Then we went in some kind of circle about whether water is an alcohol before it became apparent that you had no idea what you were talking about.

Then you said, and I am quoting, "I thought it just shrunk, then recovered over the decades since his problem, as per your own source. Give me a break. Your brain's volume varies very slightly due to day-to-day pressure fluctuations."

You would have us believe that your brain grows and shrinks in response to atmospheric differences. It doesn't. It remains the same volume (I'll allow a .01% difference for atmospheric response), but this is nothing compared to alcoholic damage. Nothing.

What this has to with anything is dubious. Why you brought up the fact that incredible minor, minor differences in volume might occur in the brain is dubious.

What are you trying to prove? How does this help your position that W isn't an idiot?

Again, do you seriously want us to believe that we become dumber in the winter because of the lower temperature, smarter in the Denver because of the lower pressure, etc? What, exactly, have you proven? Maybe W didn't damage his brain with alcohol, he only shrank it with pressure fluctuations.

You're shifting the issue.

And by the way, you have yet to actually reveal any of your publications.

Hey, it's medical school. I specifically said GRADUATE school.

Quite frankly, I'm not an expert on sending in standaridzed test scores. After I scored a perfect on the SAT, I sent it to colleges. Did my 1570 go to them as well? Maybe so. Do I care about that now? No.

EDIT: No need for ad hom.

How much does brain volume vary due to alcohol? I didn't see that in your source anywhere. Nor did I say that W isn't an idiot - I have merely stated and restated that there is a difference between intelligence and eloquence, which I stand by. I think he's reasonably intelligent, above average even.

"Again, do you seriously want us to believe that we become dumber in the winter because of the lower temperature, smarter in the Denver because of the lower pressure, etc?" All this tapdancing and you still don't get it? You just proved your own point wrong - fluctuations in brain volume do not necessarily beget fluctuations in intelligence. This is the point I have been making all along, and you just agreed to it.

Oh, and I'm not applying for a job - I don't see any reason to give you my resume. Nor am I so insecure as to think that my credentials require some internet junkie to justify myself. Nice try though.

I never speak like this. What I am doing is standing up to a bully who pretends to know what he is talking about. I am fortunate enough to know chemistry to see the obvious mistakes which he is making - most people would be easily fooled by his nonsense.

The simple fact of the matter is that George W Bush is an idiot. He probably is brain damaged from all of his years of drinking - not to mention other drugs - but Cyclo is unwilling to admit that this might be the case and is thus playing all sorts of games to avoid the issue.

It is more indicative of the lengths to which one can believe something unreasonnable - regardless of the evidence - and I apologize that you have to read all this nonsense.

Goerge W Bush damaged his brain with alcohol. No amount of "the brain can fluctuate with pressure differences" or "water is an alcohol" nonsense will change this reality. It is uncomfortable for him to know that he is wrong and I am probably right and thus nonsense, distortions, and games.

That's life for W supporters, though.

Better than facing the fact that he lied to us to start an unjust war on imaginary pretexts that has now taken 1000 American soldiers, squandered the treasury to plunge into economic disaster, dragged our good name through the mud and made us universally hated, and incited the terrorists beyond belief and imperiled our safety.

No, George W Bush is a strong, intelligent, dedicated leader who has been an incredible success.

But what is really important is that miniscule fluctuations in brain volume occur with atmospheric pressure differences.

It's fun, because I can do this and watch a movie, write a program, write a web page all at the same time because you type a book with absolutely nothing to do with the subject at hand in every post. I read the first line or two, which are the only relevant ones, and completely neglect the rest of your BS. :D

Judging from your PPD, I'd say that you've written more books than he has.

And it'd be great if you two could quit this cat fight and get back to the original topic.

Err, wait I forgot, the original topic is stupid

It's all good. You don't have to be a genius to be a leader. You just have to be able to pick the right people under you that are smart.

As regards to lies, all politicians lye but I?m really scared if Kerry becomes our president even if I don?t completely agree with everything Bush does. But how can you completely agree with anyone. Kerry?s too much a pleasure to do what he thinks is right. He?ll say what ever it takes to get you vote but he doesn?t seem to follow through with it. How can we have a leader that doesn?t follow through with what he says? Will any country take us serious if Kerry were to become president? He was against us during Vietnam and he?s against us now. This is our country and the people fighting for us are our people. You got to defend your family before you defend your neighbor. You don?t go and stab your own team in the back once you?ve finish.

At the moment I'm traveling. I'll be attending a certain type of graduate school soon though.
Oh and the 1570 wasn't the score I sent to colleges

A certain type of college... Interesting. And you didn't submit the 1570 to college. Could you give a little more detail on what college you'll ge attending and why didn't you submit your score? Please don't say yale or harvard.

I didn't submit the 1570 because it wasn't my highest score.

Ill be atending GRADUATE school soon.

HINT: The type of GRADUATE school it is starts with a "m"

And FYI, I'm hesitiant to give out any information on the internet regardless of what it may be. Guess I'm just a little paranoid :(

Sorry, but if not mistaken, you atomically submit all your scores to colleges when ever you take your SAT. They only take the highest score of each section.
Also, you must be going to a small no name ?m? college if you?re afraid to post it online. People will hunt you down and use it against you.

No.

Great respect----> EDIT: No need for ad hom.

Hope you enjoy grad school. I personally hates it but I got to go.
