Edit: Incidentally, I believe they said the correct definition of "taciturn" was "quiet".

I disagree. A room can be quiet, but it is NEVER taciturn, nor can it be. "Reserved" would be more correct, imho.

In American english taciturn generally means something more like sulking quietly or uncommunicative rather than simply quiet.

Definitely NOT sulking, ever. Not exactly uncommunicative, either. If you ask a taciturn person a question, they WILL answer.

Reserved is most correct, imho.

 
20/20; the second half was easy. It's those blasted schwa sounds that usually get me but I've been working at 'em and apparently it paid off. 🙂
