well...I went to college at 18, but I would be home for summer/vacations....after college I lived at home, saved money for about 10 months then bolted for an apartment that was being held for me.

I was just thinking about it today... I know a lot of guys who still live with their parents despite having graduated college and making fairly good money.

it's weird. of the 12 people who work in my department at work (all males, all above the age of 22), there are only 4 of us who live on our own / with a non-related roommate.

I more-or-less moved out at 17 when I went away to college, but I moved back in for a year and a half after graduating college but before finding a "real" job... I moved out again when I was 22 and have been living on my own (well... with a roommate) for the past 2 years. when my roommate moves out in May, it'll actually be the first time ever that I'll be living by myself

I'm weighing the possibility of moving back in with my parents for a couple months, though... as great as living alone seems like it'll be, rent/utility on my apartment without a roommate will be rough (doable, but rough... no more going out with friends, eating out, etc). and there's not much point in finding a new place in this area right now since there's a 99.9% probability that I'll be transfering to a new office at the other end of the state when it opens up in August.

don't we already have enough threads on this? what is thism thread # 21702374083205703124537040357759023757280750 on this same subject?

I'm jealous of the people who can live with their parents. What a wonderful head start financially.

Unfortunately, my path has kept me away from my parents house since I moved out for college. That is a few years of wasting money on renting/living expenses that people who can live with their parents don't have.

I wish I could have lived with my parents for a bit and I don't think anyone should be ashamed for doing that right after college.

i'm 24 still living at home while also paying some "rent" to my mom to help out with bills, and paying for cable and internet on my own as well. I graduated about 2 years ago and have had a real job for about 18 months.

I have close to $20K saved up and am currently actually looking around at condo's somewhat. living in montgomery county maryland however, even a 1BR condo runs over 200K + condo fees, so it's going to be tough. But I'm vaguely looking for a new job right now and hoping I can get paid more before I actually pick out a place to live. The areas I would like to live (so commute for my GF and I aren't annoyingly long) start around $250K for a 1BR condo, and with our current jobs that would really be pushing it.

Moved out very early in life to become a motivational speaker.

Was less than successful at first, and unfortunately was forced to live in a van, down by the river.

Eventually became a roaring success, however.

It's almost the very defintion of loser.

You're the second LIFER in the thread to mention this. So I should just move out and post on a message board all day? then I wouldn't be 'a loser?'

18 and only went back once for a few months when I was between apartments. Moved in with my SO of that time and another couple. (never, ever move in with a boy/girlfriend straight out of high school! It's a bad, bad, bad idea)

I'm graduating from law school in less than a month.. I'm 26 and just about to move back home. Being poor sucks. It's a hard world to live on your own in - too expensive.

And it was officially 18 how? Give me a break...

Yes, there are people who move out after high school. There are people who went to college and lived with their parents during the summer. There are people who got jobs after college and lived with their parents for a bit to build a savings.

SO WHAT?

It's so petty people are bashing others who choose to get a head start in life by becoming more financially secure. Being a bum is one thing, being smart is another.

I moved out 2 weeks after I finished University. It was also about 3 weeks after my 21st birthday.
