I agree--looks like I share your spidey-sense!

In any case, stop being a bum and move out. Posting on ATOT does not make you a loser. Maybe not the BEST use of my time, but I can check the threads from work and at home--see, I have a J-O-B and pay MY BILLS. Posting does not make me a loser, especially when I'm providing for my wife and 5 kids. I have a mortgage, 2 car payments, etc. I've been on my own since 19, except for a couple of months when I was 20 and moved back in with my mom. But again, I moved out.

I don't think you were told to move out and post all day. You should move out, handle your business, and if you CHOOSE to post at ATOT, welcome!

And you're probably living in debt, too.

Define debt...

Yes, I have a mortgage. Total of $6-7k in credit cards, and 2 car payments on 2004 vehicles. Am I buried in debt? Nope. I'm 34, been married for almost 11 years (~ 1 month shy) and am no more in debt than the avg person. Living at home is just sad when you start hitting early- to mid-20s.

I don't think you want to compare yourself to the average. The average debt in America is scary!

Here's more scary averages...

The average American saves only 1% of their salary.
The average American owes thousands on unnecessary credit card bills.
The average American leads an unhealthy lifestyle, and is overweight or obese.
The average American spends above their means.
The American government doesn't know how to budget, and each person in America is born with $3.5k debt in theory.

oh man, I'm backing out of this thread....

with people claiming negative net worth as a norm and into debt out their eyeballs I'm just gonna back away slowly.

What's more frightening is this is perceived as "normal"

I was about 20. Lived with my folks the first three years of college, then moved out to live with my sister for a few months, then she got married and I had the place to myself.

I'm 19, still kicking it with the folks. Well, my dad and his girlfriend. My mom went AWOL, she doesn't have a house, job ect, dunno where she is to be honest. That happens when you go bi polar and refuse the help that's offered (or forced) on you.

I'll be out of here shortly after I graduate and get a REAL job. I worked the past 2 years consecutivly to provide for my 'extras' and still have another $500 to last me a month. I'll get meself a job and work it all summer, then back to schooling again in the fall. Probably keep the job if I can, if I can get the schedules to work out well enough. It's nice to have the extra income instead of living a little 'tighter'.

2) Those who got kicked out 20 years ago the day they turned 18 and are still bitching about how hard it was back in the day and how easy these kids have it nowadays.

There are a few exceptions, but those will be the anomolies.

I just don't get it for some people who decide "I'm 18 now so I'm leaving". Or "I have to move out now so people don't think I'm a loser." I've said this before...

I can understand moving away for college but there's nothing wrong with moving back in afterward, UNTIL YOU ARE FINANCIALLY STABLE. I'm not one to preach about making smart financial decisions, but this one to me is a no-brainer. I hear so many stories about 18-year olds moving out with nothing but a part-time job or barely a stable full-time job and they're spending a ridiculous % of their income on housing. On the other hand, you could be staying at home for an extra year or two after you have a stable/long-term job and buy a house with a lot more $ down. Can you not stand your parents THAT much ? Do you really want to spend $500+/mo. on rent (that you won't ever see again) when you're earning ~$1000 net ? I'm in the NYC area and the #s are worse.

Again, this isn't meant to be a knock on every 18-22 year old, but it seems people think leaving at around that age SHOULD be the norm. Sure, if you can really support yourself and you're not doing it because it'd be uncool otherwise. And to the parents that kick you out at 18... WTF is wrong with them ?

After leaving university, I'm probably going to stay at home with a part time job for ~6mo, then trip round Europe for a month or two, then go home and find a job, and once I've found a proper job I'm going to move out.
Makes no sense to move out before having a proper job IMO.
So I'm aiming for maybe a few months after I turn 22.

I don't think they are less responsible, as they are more family oriented.

19 for university. None of my friends have moved out other than the ones Ive met at school. Two are doing the compulsory military service which I havent done yet. Now Ive moved back for 4 months to work during the summer vacation. So Im earning money and have little expenses apart from the half of rent Im still payin so that I can keep my stuff there (125?/month).

It's almost the very defintion of loser.

You're the second LIFER in the thread to mention this. So I should just move out and post on a message board all day? then I wouldn't be 'a loser?'

LOL...heeeey...BAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess if that happens we'll be seeing more of you on ATOT ;)
