n00b question: wouldn't doing this prevent you from using the internet yourself, or is there a way to filter out your MAC address so that it is not routed to whatever disgusting site you direct other traffic to? I mean, obviously this would be a quick prank thing, not something you'd leave up permanently, but would you just be watching to see how many people connect and how quick they get off (and I really, really hope I mean disconnect)?

I am sticking the wireless router onto my existing router...this way I can just use my existing router to surf the web normally. (If that makes any sense.) Anyone coming through the wireless should be redirected. I am actually dying to go home to try this out.

It's called a captive portal. I think you can do it with 3rd party firmware such as ddwrt. Or pay for it with patronsoft.

Your router effectively acts as a transparent proxy and from there you can do any redirection or page insertion you want. So even if they type in www.cnn.com, the browser will display www.cnn.com except it would be another page or content of your choosing. Any other links or click would all go to the same thing. You could even have a list of sites you want to redirect them to.

I have seen all those, and as far as I'm concerned, Goatse is still king. I thought the image had been forever emblazoned in my mind, but when I was accidentally re-exposed to it after a few years, I found that the memory had faded.

I took the cheap way out so you could too if you're curious. It's perfectly safe to google the words, just don't do an image search and be careful what you click on. I went with the wikipedia results and was able to read descriptions without having to witness first hand.

I was going to say, I don't think you can securely do what you want (redirect to a single page) with a factory firmware / consumer router. If you had DD-WRT setup already you wouldn't need to unsecure your main connection for testing, you could just setup a second SSID and use that for testing purposes (you'd still get the freeloaders though if encryption was off).
