How much do you tip for a haircut?

Nothing. I get my hair cut by a friend and just pay her $10 or so. Or I have my g/f do it and I don't pay her anything. 😛

Cheap haircuts at barber schools. They do it cheap, because they are in training and need practice.

I pay $12 + $1/2. I used to get them for $5 when I roomed with a guy in barber school. 🙂

wow, I'll be the first to add the conversation to the haircut -

At the barber shop, usually if the conversation during the haircut is good, I'll tip more...
always at least $3 though. Also, (I'll admit it) the cuter the stylist, often the more I tip (maybe a dollar more) Or, if the conversation leads to the stylist is a single mom with young children in day care or something like that, I'll tip more - call it charity if you wish - but I know how much of a struggle it is, and I'm happy to see someone working and trying to get ahead.

But, usually, I just get into bed later that night with the person who cuts my hair.

edit: my wife cuts my hair

damn thats expensive hair cuts. I get a cut for $1.20 and tip $0.20 😛 🙂

Wow, and I thought $6 for a haircut was a hot deal. Who cuts hair for $1.20, and is that just a 2-minute buzz cut or something that takes longer?

I was paying $13.00 for a cut, $5.00 for a tip, and then figured out that for $25 I could buy a set of clippers and have my wife give me a buzzcut for free.

Edit: haha $2.99 haircut is nice but the bowl always hurts my head!

The place i go to raises their prices every 6 months from, 10 bucks, to 12, to 14... I tip a buck or two.

Can someone answer the question of why I need to tip when I am already paying 14 bucks for a haircut that takes 15 minutes?

I pay $25 CAD, which is dirt cheap in my area. I've been seeing the same stylist for about six years. I usually tip her $5.

zero. Tipping for a haircut is insane.

I've gone to the same guy for 14 years. He wouldn't take a tip anyway.

I always tip when getting a haircut, I guess just a little incentive for them not to make you look like a doosh. My guess is the guys who don't tip there barbers don't tip waiters either. Got to tip the waiter so they don't spit in your food or leave you a little present in there 🙂

not to start the tipping thread war again but.

playing devil's advocate here...

Why should I leave a tip after I payed 15 bucks a plate for food? Wouldnt the price of the food cover me sitting and eating there? Why is it my job to pay the waiter when I am paying for the food?

educate me.

I'm not disagreeing with your argument at all. I would just rather leave an extra few bucks for a tip so I don't get a special surpise in my next meal there.
