myth. I've grown four inches since starting to lift.

First shot I did 20lbs on each side + bar for 10 reps. I'm not sure about maximum press though.

The bar!

I would recommend starting off with either machines or use use dumbells. I have something kind of gimp with my left shoulder and I always use dumbells, or a machine, because sometimes my shoulder just kind of gives out and I don't want to risk having a barbell come crashing down.

I just turned 16 and am 5'11" 135lbs. I don't work out, but I play basketball and stuff a lot. Weight training was an elective at my school, so I took it. I can bench 120lbs 1 rep. 110lbs-4 reps. My other benchmarks were pretty good. I maxed out the calf raise machine even.

I am really skinny, but I look jacked. Every muscle buldges through when I flex. I grew a lot this summer, but didn't put on enough weight. By the end of the class, I hope to be at 150-160lbs, keep my BF % (around 4-5%) and be able to bench my weight. Maybe I should I try out some whey protein or creatine.

maxed out at 245.

I can only dream of being that strong again. . .:disgust:

I'm like 5'4" 130lbs and I can max ~250ish. But I work out to compensate for my height.

That's a huge load of BS.

you should be lifting about 260lbs.

Regardless of his height and weight, I doubt he could bench anywhere close to 260lbs if he has never really worked out before.

Maybe 160.

took a class over the summer on exercise physiology, we were required to measure our max single rep bench press. I had previously did a couple months of 70 - 80 lb 12 rep sets, but never tried to max before.

my max was 125, just 10 pounds off from being able to use the real men plates!

oh, and i'm 6 foot, 145 lbs, skinny dude (basketball and running were my big sports)

Non-working out person? I bet they can't bench much at all.

I haven't benched seriously in a while. I've been doing dumbell flies instead which seems to work my chest better. I tried doing flat bench last week to see how much I've lost and I can barely do 255. Pathetic. I was doing 275 earlier this year.

I won't be doing any reps at all, we'll be looking for a SINGLE REP max amount. I haven't touched a bench press since 8th grade. And I don't work out. And I'm lean.

Okay I'm ready to be laughed at tomorrow. What will I be doing, 40 maybe?

different for everybody. some people are just naturally strong and others aren't.

if you keep at it though, your bench will rise a lot. i know some people started at like 80lbs, and now lift over 300.

i'd say the average adult(over 18) guy should be able to do 100lbs though.

depends on to many factors.

I lift regularly, but if I was to stop say...for three months, I can still bench my own weight which doesn't say much, because my weigh drops back down to 130lbs. If I lift, I can get as high as 150lbs in about a month and a half.

pics?

I definitely don't do much physical activity, so less than that for me.

I'm about 5'8", 135 lbs. I'm a skinny dude. I think that's like, four pounds underweight.

Thats not really skinny. I was 5'8 125lbs When I used to work out on free weights, my max bench press on free weights was around 130lbs. Now i weigh a little under 120lbs and could prob barely bench 100lbs.

It is far better and more natural looking to do pushups, situps, chinups, and other excercises with only your own weight to move.

10 pushups a day. Soon you will naturally increase to 20, then 30. Then two sets of 20, ...

Actually I havent lifted weights in like 10 years, but still have a physique similar to when I did, just not nearly as strong.

6'0 140ish when I started lifting. I have a naturally athletic build, but I was just a scrawny high schooler. Couldn't bench 100 lbs when I started, but after about 6 months of heavy lifting got up to 215. I was stuck on 215 for a long time too....then I quit and I can barely do 160-170. :(
