Yeah that sounds about right, don't do much working out and a small build.

shouldn't it depend on build ? I mean a guy who's never worked out but has a large frame (from eating lots of burgers) would have a stronger upper body by default. I'm saying this as a lean asian guy who's had to work for every visible curve that I do have.

Use the benching machines if you feel embarassed. That way, from some angles no one will see how much you're using.

We all will be. I'm hoping we do it with a buddy and not just right in front of an instructor or something.

I could do 120 in 8th grade while being 5' 2" and weighing 110. The only excercise I ever did were pushups.

Lol 3 months ago I could barely bench 40lbs. Now I am benching 100lbs.

5'11" 115lbs -> 5'11" 124lbs

Yeah, still way underweight and my metabolism is as rapid as ever.

Dunno who that is. Ive always been far underweight. For the past 8 years, Ive been eating 6 meals each day for a total of around 4500 calories.

Psh who needs to weight lift. Running is where its at. The only thing you need more muscles for is for lifting more. Running at least makes you more healthy overall :D

Push ups and dumbbell flies should help your benchpress experience.

Your body weight (olympic bar plus two 45# plates) would be a nice short term goal.

However, as Smurf said I would start off with just the bar and go from there. Your ego and chest will thank you later.

Make sure you have a spotter.

Ok how much is a EZ-curl bar? I've heard 15, 20, and 25 lbs from different sources.

Depends on the bar. I've seen ones that're 15 and 25 lbs, and I'd imagine they make 20 lb. bars, too.

Why lift weights???? It will only compress your joints and make you shorter. Your muscles will disappear after a few years yet you will never grow again. Whatever height you are when you start lifting weights is the tallest you will achieve.

It is far better and more natural looking to do pushups, situps, chinups, and other excercises with only your own weight to move.

10 pushups a day. Soon you will naturally increase to 20, then 30. Then two sets of 20, ...

I'm 5'6" 145 and back in school I would lift often and was able to bench about 190

After years of doing "nothing" I almost died handling 100 pounds. I even had to re-count the weight!

the gym for my apartment complex doens't have bar weights, only free weights (up to 50lbs) and a benchpress machine. Benchpress machines don't count :p

Because we want to go out and do something? I'd never do a thing if I tried to workout in my apartment. But when I go to the rec center with friends after class I'm forced to workout. I've really started to like it and I wish I had more time to go.

Gymnastics is where it's at. They interviewed one of the US Olympians and he said that they get that muscular just because they lift their own body weight so often while doing the gymnastics. That's healthy, they look awesome, and they can do crazy stunts. That's where it's at.
