I have to ask my parents, it's not like I dont earn my own money. I have probably given them about $5-6 grand in checks/cash for my computer repair work. But I never have received a weekly allowance. I wish I had though, it teaches money management very well.

yeah, get a job... all you 13 year olds out there who are too young to work legally, I guess that just sucks for you.

once I started going to school, my parents gave me $10/week. when I started high school, it got bumped up to $30/week (really only a $5 bump, since once I started hs, I had to pay $15/week for the subway+bus back and forth to school)

Never had an allowance, but when I was 16 my parents would give me money for gas or for trips when I didn't have enough from working.

I got 20$ a week to pay for 16.50 in food when I was in highschool 🙁

Now I have a job and I can buy all the food I want :gift:

i was getting 20$/week for lunch when i was in high school (we were allowed to go off campus, so thats what i did instead of buying lunch in the cafeteria).. now i'm 21 (turning 22 in a week) and i dont get anything...

hmm....

i used to get $5/week when my dad remembered when I was like 8-13,

then i started working @ age 14......now, @ age 22 my allowance is from my job!!!

I got $2 a week and I had to bust my ass to get it. Do you know how long it took me to buy a freaking NES?

Allowance, funny stuff. I have been working since i was 10.

Well 10-12 I was a paper boy. Then at 13 started working, at the time it was 4.00 an hour.

heh.... first job when I was 14, never had an allowance. I suggest you get off your ass and work before you get used to taking handouts princess

I get every cent my husband makes and I'm old enough to have earned it. (Remember ladies, the mantra is "everything I have is mine and everything he has is mine.") 😀

I never had allowance, my parents made me work for my money - they dind't spoon-feed me until I was 10.

lol, so *that's* what my wife has been mumbling every night...

used to get $10 a week when i was in middle school. it all stopped when i got my first job in 9th grade.

oh im 22 now and get about $900 per week pre taxes/401K/medical

my parents thought that it was important to teach my sister and I to be responsible about financial stuff pretty early. got my first credit card when I was 14 🙂

I have a 23 year-old friend who still gets an allowance... it's pretty sad, but she's been virtually unemployed for almost 10 months (hasn't been able to find a job since college graduation except short-term temp work). her parents took pity on her and started to pay her for doing housework.

over-qualified.

at least that's what she says. we have two theories that we talk about behind her back... either she has a job and she's to embaressed to tell us about it (ie: McDonalds or retail), or she only has another few months to live.

3 of us have had 7 jobs between us in the time that she's had none. heh.
