How many times have you dialed 911 in your life?

Mostly because I work at an airport alone at night. I get unnerved easily when people show up and are doing strange things and there's no reason to be around.

I've never dialed. But I've had 911 called for me before. 😀

My infant daughter called 911 once though when she got hold of the cordless phone. My wife got a nice visit from the police that day. :laugh:

After the car infront of me veared off of I-80 clipping the guard rail and going into a flying barrel roll. (she lived, had fallen asleep at the wheel. I was the first to the car and will never forget how it looked on its roof and the LOUD christian music.)

When my 13 year old neighbor killed himself while trying to imatate how a kid at school had killed himself the week before. (The mother ran to our house to ask for help instead of calling 911, my folks asked me to call while they went to help.)

1. On I-10 in Baton Rouge - watched a wreck happen right beside me (I was in middle lane)

2. On I-10 somewhere between Mobile and Pensacola - someone in the opposite direction was driving with a tire that was on fire. Also, they had caught the median on fire in several spots.

I was an RA for four years in college; as a result, I dialed 911 maybe three times, all alcohol related if I remember correctly. I dialed the University's non-emergency police hotline more times than I can remember, easily in the low hundreds.

I was in an elevator and the higher it went, the more I could smell smoke. When it hit the top floor, I got out as fast as possible and could see smoke curling around in the air. I made for the roof exit cos I was already feeling a bit queasy and dialled the digits.

I also reported a truck jack that was straddling the lanes on my side of the road, just after a busy roundabout with a fast exit. Cars were swerving all over the place and I saw very bad things happening in the near future.

Coming home from work in Vancouver just after getting off the Skytrain I look over to my right to see a guy running with another man chasing after him. The running man was taken down hard and the man on top yelled "I am an off-duty RCMP officer and do not have my cuffs, someone please call 911"...
Turns out both cops (the other was helping the kid who's house had just been broken into) were undercover RCMP from Quebec doing a drug stakeout at a different house when they saw this guy break the window and climb into a first-floor condo. Right time, right place I guess.

Back when I drove for a living I called 911 maybe a dozen times over the course of several years to report traffic accidents, more recently I had to call 911 twice over this past summer because my Mom was having some health issues & couldn't get out of bed. (turned out to be severe de-hydration)

Also (annoyingly) both mine & my wifes cell phone numbers start with "915" & this has resulted in my 8 year old daughter making a few accidental calls, which would be no big deal if she just stayed on the line & told them she did it by mistake, but because she decided to hang up even after being told not to if it happened again, we received several visits from the PD.

For some odd reason the police still had our phone number listed at our old residence, some 2.5 years after we moved.

I guess something was going on that they were attempting to call the old house. they said they are outside. But when I looked outside at where I moved to the street was completely empty. no cars or anyone. they insisted that they were covered. But I was like okay, I dunno where you're gonna hide.

so I just followed the cops orders, open door hands up etc. but as I aleady knew no one would be out there. Called 911 and I guess they relayed with cops at the scene of old home. and I get an oops, were sorry. for some reason your phone number is listed for old residence, but there trace or whatever thing they used shows the current home. Later that morning the cops called and apologize for not verifying the information and waking us up at 3am.

Once 14 years ago, before widespread cell phone coverage. A car off to the side of the rural freeway caught on fire as passed it. I was exiting a mile up anyway so I stopped at the gas station and dialed 911 to report the fire. The 911 operator said "So? You should have dial the NON-emergency number" WTF I am driving down the freeway, I don't know the NON-emergency number!

Since marrage both toddlers have called once prompting a call back, and the middle child called and said "There is a fire on Main Street" then hung up! That caused a police visit, but no fines. Damn you Richard Scarry!

Yea I didnt know the freaking non-emergency # and it's not like I keep it on me, so I had to dial 911 only to find the right # to call.

Once, I was in a park in my home town drinking a gatorade. When I was finished I went to throw it away in a dumpster, the dumpster was on fire. The first thing I did was go to a pay phone and dial the opperator, I explained it wasn't an emergency but she should get the fire dept here. She told me to call 911 so I did.

Three times. Once, to report a fire. The operator instantly knew what I was talking about, because it was a controlled fire.

Second time, to report an accident.

Third time, to report that my car was stalled and blocking traffic, so a police car could come by and deal with traffic.

Never had anything resembling wait time. Operators instantly answered all three times.
