Once. I was walking to my car to leave for work and some guy in a utility van was having an asthma attack. His co-worker asked me to call 911 and I ran back to my apartment. I was so out of breath that the lady who answered thought I was panicking. Then she asked me for specific directions to the parking lot and all I could name was the road it was adjacent to  I think the guy was fine because by the time I went back to my car, the ambulance was already there.

Once. I was at my parents' and accidently fed one of their foster babies the wrong formula-- he was severely allergic to any milk based products and was on soy formula because of it-- and he violently threw up for about ten minutes and then went unconscious. :( I thought I'd killed the baby. :( So I called 911, the paramedics came out and it turned out that he was just severely exhausted from throwing up for so long and couldn't stay awake.

He was alright after sleeping for awhile, and I've been amazingly careful about which kids can eat/drink what ever since.

Twice that I can remember: once to report an accident, and the other time to call an ambulance for my dad, who was having an abdominal aortic aneurysm (he survived).

Once to report an accident. I've responded to more than I can count when I was an EMT with LA County Fire though.

Just a few times. Usually to report drunk drivers or accidents or something like that while driving.

Why should I call 911? I just ask ATOT what to do in emergency situations.

I think about 6..

But then again, I'm one of those people that calls 911 when I see something suspicious - like any good citizen should do.

1. ambulance for guy who got hit by car on his bike.. broke his ankle

2. army surplus store window busted in with two guys stealing sh1t during a hurricane in FL (outskirts of hurricane.. not much damage)

3. for myself.. had food poisoning BAD and was instructed by my insurance to hang up the phone and call myself an ambulance.. it sucked

4. saw a drunk driver bump into a poll and then run along a curb for a while.. stuck the cops on him

5. friends and I being chased by an idiot (probby drunk) that cut us off after we honked at him.. he chased us for 30 minutes and the 911 operator wouldn't believe us cause' we were 16 at the time

6. rather not discuss

Twice.

Once around four years old because I saw it on TV, and another time around 17 when I saw a bad car accident

Never, but one time when I was living in Halifax and when they were implementing a new 911 system, I read in the papers about people receiving calls from 911 dispatchers because it appeared as if they had made calls. Sure enough I got one in the middle of one afternoon. LOL, "You sure you didn't call 911?" "Yes, I'm sure."

once. stuck in a huge elevator that said "limit 4 people" in big bad red bold letters

i was a group of 10. i just ignored the sign, and said "STUPID!" and told everyone to step in, there's actually still room for other people not in the group

needless to say, i felt stupid.

They have a hotline with a registered nurse for medical advice.. I'd been violently sick for 3 days straight, got no sleep, was exhausted, dehydrated.. and couldn't hold down any water. She said to drink Gatorade and call 911.

Hmm I work at a convenience store where we have dialled 911 several times. However we really need to memorize the non-emergency number for the police as non of these incidents were 911 worthy, the clerk on duty just couldn't think of another number quickly. They were usually incidents where we had to evict a rowdy drunkard who was mouthing off and refused to leave we caught a shoplifter who refused to give up the stolen merchandise unless threatened with the police. Not a 911 types of incidents. Personally thankfully I haven't needed to call 911.

3 times. Once for the accident I was in outside of Chicago, once for a family that hit a dear at ~80 miles an hour, and once for an employee having a seizure at work.

1, didn't know the police phone # offhand so I called 911 to contact the police about an obviously very, very drunk driver.

Once on the line with them, the state police asked me to follow the person, who ranged anywhere from 5-40 mph on a 45 mph limit road and who was only rarely in her lane, preferring the curb or the opposite lane. Luckily the few people who were going the other way were doing so at a sensible speed and able to easily slow down in time and give her a wide berth. About 10 minutes later the police showed up and arrested her, thank god.

I thought for sure I'd have read a post that someone had to call the police to come and help kill a spider.
