I do.

In fact, I'm putting a 5speed in my current car because I trashed the automatic. It's just more fun. Plus it's relatively cheap to rebuild when I trash my diff.

17, I didn't learn to drive period on a manual - but I did learn how to drive stick on an SVT Cobra.

this question pops up every couple of weeks in OT and a certain part of the audience here acts like driving a manual is some kind of "special" gift. I guess I have to tell my 82 year old grandmother that she is special. It's not rocket science.

The difficulty in finding them these days makes it that much harder for anyone to learn in the first place. So what do you do? Rent one and fug it up? As far as learning opportunities, I had 1 friend in HS who drove one but I only got 1 chance behind the wheel. If I were more into driving back then as I am now, I would've tried more. I have steptronic now and I know it's the not the same but it fulfills the urge, not to mention having the option to go back and forth is nice. Really not going to seek out a manual at this point.

i learned when i had a job parking cars at a fancy restaurant in Connecticut.

it was fun. you learn real fast when the customer is standing right there and
part of your pay is tips.

A poll would have worked well for this thread.

I don't currently own a car but I can drive standard. I had to take drivers ed with a standard transmission car.

yeah, most cars in UK are manual it seems, but I just recently bought an auto, and I dont know if id go back - when im going over 90mph i like to have 2 hands on the wheel, lol

when you're going over 90 mph, it's highly unlikely you're gonna be shifting.

anyways, since you post bs like that, i highly doubt you've ever owned a manual to begin with.

fwiw, i drive a 2000 corolla, manual transmission.

i have no preference between manual and auto, but when i get in a car with an auto, i'm lost.

i took my dad's bimmer (auto) to taco bell one day... and got stuck in the parking lot trying to figure out how to make it go. my brain just up and died on me. :/

Learned fairly quickly (read: clutched out once, then never more) on a friend's Mazda3 hatch, which actually have surprisingly..."accommodating" clutches. =

I couldn't get my friends 240 out of his fucking driveway though, piece of shit had a burnt out clutch, had destroyed gears, etc., it's a fucking miracle he was ever able to drive that thing. He ended up getting a new clutch, rebuilt tranny, and a bunch of other work done shortly after I complained that it was a POS, lol.

If you can't even handle shifting into D or R, I am not sure I can trust you with shifting through 6 or more gears.

...spend your entire life with 1 system, then switch to another. let's see how well you adapt within the first 5 minutes.

Can I drive one smoothly enough? Yes. Can I heel-toe do-si-do, double-clutch downshift and rev match? No.
