You have to put in so much time to get good that if you don't have 12 hours a day to spend building your character you're never going to do very well...so it's just a game of who has the most time not really skill. 3. No satisfaction of winning or beating another person...I think one of the main reasons why I play games online is that I'm usually a lot better than the average person and can rack up 20 wins in a row and completely own someone...it doesn't seem like killing computer opponents is all that satisfying..

You have too much competition in your blood.

These (at least AC1) are more about cooperation and solving quests than they are about being better than someone else.

Yeah..that's why one of those games doesn't appeal to me...I hate 2v2's in RTS games because when I lose it's usually because the other person was a complete newbie and I was playing 2 good players. At least in solo if I lose it's my own fault...other people find large team games funner cuase of the cooperation and having to be on the same page and work together but in 2v2's I prefer to go kill one guy while my ally doesn't die to the other guy at which point we go and kill the other guy together.

Been playing EQ since day one of it's release on and off. Currently 'on' it, but only play about once a week. I was off it awhile, since it was entirely 'raiding' content, and i couldn't devote the time for a raiding guild. But now with the new LDoN expansion, i can go back to getting pick up groups.

<---in Horizons beta, the game kicks ass

I'm into EQ pretty deep. No, I don't need your help, pity, or support. Level 65 druid, 143 AA. Also got a few other characters that are approaching 60.

I'm trying to figure out why people are looking down on people for being committed or heavily involved with something in life. "Man, you got that family thing? What a time commitment! I feel so sorry for you..." or "Man, you work 40 hours a week doing something you don't like so that you can pay off your college debt that you got spending 4 years learning stuff you didn't like and don't use anymore anyway? What a waste..." I guess it's just easy to be critical. EQ is an outlet; guess you can think of it like watching football games or being in a bowling league. When all is said and done, no, you haven't accomplished anything by any worldly standards, but if your standards are different because you're a thinking human being, then why should that bother you?

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. EQ is far cheaper than a girlfriend though, I'll give it that. Find me a girlfriend who costs me less than 10 bucks a month and maybe I'll quit. I'd prefer to find one who plays EQ though...

That was tongue-in-cheek, by the way.

You are comparing the time drain of having a family to playing a video game. Seek help.

No, but you're close. I'm comparing the time drain of having a family to the time drain of playing a video game, and extrapolating to the point that an activity isn't a waste merely because it consumes time. Something's value to you depends on your priorities, and different people prioritize different things at different times in their lives.

Recovering EQ addict... played 2 years and quit cold by DELETING my 59 monk in front of a friend and fellow addict while we were online at his casa.

I was helping him exchange items between two of his characters when I made him hold all my plat, armor, weapons, etc. When he asked why, I said "you'll see" then proceeded to DELETE the character from the server. My friend $h1t his pants and later gave me mad props for having the courage to finally leave the game.

I'm looking forward to EQ2, and I'll be damned sure to avoid the 2-year addiction sequence I experienced with the original.

I've been playing EQ for over 3 years. Used to be really addicted, I play much more moderately now though, but still probably 30 hours a week.

I'm tempted to start playing one after watching .hack//SIGN, but then I think of how much time I'm already losing now to my AT forums addiction and resist.

Maybe after I leave my current job in another year or two I'll take a MMORPG plunge as part of my between-jobs vacation. Last time it was Quake2 CTF, which was fun :)

I've played EQ for almost 3 years. My main is a 65 bard w/120-something-aa, VT and elemental gear, etc. I've got a lot of other lower level characters as well. The PoP expansion effectively killed my interest in the game. 7 Hour, 72-person raids?no thanks. I've had some great times, but the rule of thumb became that the grind is the norm, and the great times were fewer and farther between. I may play again, but it will be a while, and I'll probably quit my current guild. I just can't committ hours and hours of my time every day. I don't enjoy it any more. It becomes a job. I already have a job.

I quit cold turkey about 2 months ago and haven't logged on since.

I'm playing a ton of UT CTF right now and loving every minute of it. :)

at least he is trying to moderate it now. it pisses me off when people call others a loser or an idiot or moron, whatever...i was addicted to EQ for about 3 years and let me tell you, the addiction is real. its not something you can walk away from with any ease.

i bought and sold account toward the end of my EQ days, and that was when i was the worst. i had 9 accounts and played 10 hours a day (on weekends) and probably 6 or 7 after school each day. i couldnt resist it! there was always something i HAD to get done or someone i HAD to talk to. i finally understood i was wasting my childhood and i gave it up. i loved the game, it was fun....but its just hard to play in moderation. my girlfriend is great though, she stuck with me through all of that. today we love each other more than ever, and im glad i got through that. i quit playing that game and i dont regret it. although it was tons of fun, life is undoubtedly more interesting. to everyone who is struggling with this, just keep trying and eventually you will figure it out. no one can help you with this but yourself. you have to see what you are doing and how much time you are wasting, and you wont know you missed something good until its gone. the only regrets i have are things i wish i could have done while i was in high school and life is easy, unstressful, and you have no obligations.
