i'm always surprised by how often ppl in the videocard forums upgrade. oh no, my 4 month old SLI rig is outdated!
I'm very happy with mine (i5 750 / 4890). I may go to SSD in the next few months but I won't upgrade my video card until I start running into framerate issues.
I just built the desktop in my sig in June. I'll probably be putting the HTPC in my sig together tomorrow, but that was also a really cheap system.
how cheap? that might be a nice option for me too... although the portability of a laptop is very enticing
It's setting me back about $420 including the W7 HP license. But it can also act as a single-tuner DVR, which added a little to the cost. I also didn't have any parts lying around..
My laptop is still needed and not very good for turning into an HTPC and a set-top box, as nice as they can be, were not the best solution for me.
It's kind of amazing how long you can hold onto a pc these days. Years are when we had 100mhz Pentiums you could get massive gains every 18 months These days i'm on a amd x2 cpu for gaming and it does everything I throw at it. I've never gone so long without an upgrade.
Same build here. Only thing I want at this point is an SSD as an OS drive. Might buy if there's a good enough deal for Black Friday.pretty sure it'll be a few more years before software requirements can catch up to my early 2009 hardware (i7 920, 6gb, gtx285). i can still easily run any of the new games
will be constantly adding more 2TB hds for my burgeoning bluray collection
