I'm very happy with mine (i5 750 / 4890). I may go to SSD in the next few months but I won't upgrade my video card until I start running into framerate issues.

ever since I stopped playing PC games + put an Intel SSD in it I don't see a reason why I would ever upgrade my PC...

It might take a few years.

I just built the desktop in my sig in June. I'll probably be putting the HTPC in my sig together tomorrow, but that was also a really cheap system.

I'll be building a new system once the Intel Sandy Bridge processors come out... the existing Core i3's and i5's aren't much faster than my existing Core 2 Duo system.

I skimped the last 2 years with no upgrades at all. I have to this year because my hand me town computer (spare one) is dying.

Thankfully I scrounged up my 3 monitor system for $0.00 so I won't have to buy much for an upgrade.

how cheap? that might be a nice option for me too... although the portability of a laptop is very enticing

It's setting me back about $420 including the W7 HP license. But it can also act as a single-tuner DVR, which added a little to the cost. I also didn't have any parts lying around..

My laptop is still needed and not very good for turning into an HTPC and a set-top box, as nice as they can be, were not the best solution for me.

Just finished build a super cheap baby monitor/spare bedroom PC, wife will be getting something faster next summer, my machine runs fine and was upgraded to dual SSD/x4 640 this summer so it should be fine for another few years.

Probably about 9-12 months before I spend more on pc hardware components. This workstation has dual quad cores @ 2.4ghz and 8GB ram + gtx285 card works fine and I have about 1TB of free hard drive space still. There are faster workstations but this one does what I need so no need to spend more anytime soon.

For the past 6 years I've been using laptops. My server is still a PC, but it's been running strong for 9 years.

I just buy a laptop every 2-3 years, no more PC upgrades for me.

I think I'll buy a new computer next year and spend a good 2 grand on it. However I haven't bought a new PC since 2005.

i tend to upgrade whenever blizzard releases a new RTS, so prior to my current computer bought a year ago, my last computer was for wc3 back in 2002. Man, that was a huge difference. expect the next upgrade closer to 2015- probably for Starcraft 3 or something...

I'm running absolute crap. My computer is about 4 years old - and was low-end to begin with. I just have so many expenses and my laptop was recently stolen. I may just save up for a nice laptop and nix the desktop. I need a laptop and might not be able to afford both for a while... I'm going to try to wait it out until after the holidays.

PC - upgraded from 2 core to quad core [I think the last time I upgraded was about 2 years ago]. Time to replace the laptops [with 1 this time around] though - they are showing their age.

It's kind of amazing how long you can hold onto a pc these days. Years are when we had 100mhz Pentiums you could get massive gains every 18 months These days i'm on a amd x2 cpu for gaming and it does everything I throw at it. I've never gone so long without an upgrade.

Truf! My last computer was an Intel E6600 and it lasted about 3.5 years! It still played games like Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas just fine but it was a little slow in some of the newer games. This time around I have a Phenom X6 1055 which I expect to last about 2-3 years since it's more of a mid-range processor.

Those guys who got the i7 920 when it came out could hang onto the same computers for probably 4 years easily.

I've got an 18 month old AMD quad core. I'll probably go another two years before I do a complete upgrade. However, I probably will buy a ~100 GB SSD within the next few months. They're just about at that price in which I can afford to get a decent sized one.

pretty sure it'll be a few more years before software requirements can catch up to my early 2009 hardware (i7 920, 6gb, gtx285). i can still easily run any of the new games

will be constantly adding more 2TB hds for my burgeoning bluray collection
Same build here. Only thing I want at this point is an SSD as an OS drive. Might buy if there's a good enough deal for Black Friday.

laptop - waiting to see when sandy bridge comes to the macbook pros. even then, my current arrandale macbook pro is plenty fast. i definitely will be getting a 256GB ssd for it though.

desktop - i honestly want to replace the desktop with new parts, but the computer is already fast enough for me (c2q q9450 @ 3.6ghz, asus p5q deluxe, 4GB of ram, GTX 260). i probably will just get a 128GB ssd for it.
