I would not say I know all the tricks that scouts or people who camp a lot know, but using common sense and no more then 2% of my brain I can usually get a camp fire going in under 5 minutes. 30 seconds if the wood is not soaked, but that's rare around here.
I tend to go the teepee style, lay the kindling like a teepee, put paper inside, light it, once the kindling catches add thicker kindling, then small logs, then next thing you know it's burning full size logs. I am the master at making kindling. Though it really depends on the wood, if there's too much knots it just wont cut right. I can usually make 1/2cm thick pieces.
Pine tree branches do wonders as well for starting fires.
And if all else fails, get the gas. 😛
