How many of you know how to start a fire?

Maybe it's the boy scout in me. But it really isn't that difficult. Is a fireplace that much of a foreign device? No "push button to light fire"?

Watching Survivor reality shows it's pretty clear. Folks just don't know how to start a fire.

So the question is in the Poll.

Yes, as long as I have an ignition source. Building levels is very easy. I've made fire from flint before and from wood friction, but neither of those were very fun.

Yes. I read Jack London's "To Build A Fire" and it scared me enough to learn how to build one the right way.

I would not say I know all the tricks that scouts or people who camp a lot know, but using common sense and no more then 2% of my brain I can usually get a camp fire going in under 5 minutes. 30 seconds if the wood is not soaked, but that's rare around here.

I tend to go the teepee style, lay the kindling like a teepee, put paper inside, light it, once the kindling catches add thicker kindling, then small logs, then next thing you know it's burning full size logs. I am the master at making kindling. Though it really depends on the wood, if there's too much knots it just wont cut right. I can usually make 1/2cm thick pieces.

Pine tree branches do wonders as well for starting fires.

And if all else fails, get the gas. :p

I was a pyro when I was younger so I don't have too much difficulty getting a fire started.

Bring some steel wool and a flashlight with batteries. Put together some dry leaves and wood, rub steel wool on both sides of batteries at once, instant fire.

Give a flame (match or lighter) and some dry material, I can start a fire.

With a lighter/matches? Yes, I've lit many over the years.

With flint/wool/twigs? seen it on shows, never tried it.

If I have an ignition source (lighter, some paper or something) I can get a fire going. My uncle and dad have taught me well.

I always tossed a flint spark onto the steel wool. Instafire.

Flint, knife = fire.

Even better if you have some dryer lint with you.

I can start a fire, as long as I have matches and or a lighter. Otherwise, I'm helpless.

I'm a city kid. I don't think one year of weeblos counts...
