I am saying it was controlled in Taiwan if I remember correctly. You couldn't even have walkie talkie.

Remember I was in Taiwan, so I was already lagging behind in terms of electronics. Throw in martial law on top.

We had tubes, but they were being phased out. Transistors (and the first ICs) were the norm.

I think the only civilian that had radio comm was the fishing vessels. Owning a HAM set was illegal.

Good thing you did because the highs from those piezoelectric motorola tweeters (as pictured above) would've fried your brain!

Of course those didn't exist back in the '70s. Another reason why I miss the '70s.

A rudimentary horn can be made out of packaging cardboard and a sharp toothpick attached to it will produce sound audible across the room.

I'm talking childhood years here.

I have a book of do-it-at-home science experiments that includes this. If I remember correctly, it suggests a wooden pencil and card stock.
