It gets to taxing to game on PC's somethimes. You'll always have to go through troubleshooting, driver switches, tweaking, upgrades, patching and soforth just in order to get game running good. Alternatively, the only problem I have with my PS2 is getting the wireless controllers to stay connected. Consoles are basically pnp. Instant gratification.

The only downside is the lower quality of console games, which drives us back to PC's. It's a viscious cycle...

My feeling exactly. HL2 is great, but gets WAY to drawn out, and the halo-esque additions just subtract from the overall gameplay. UTx has great gameplay, but not much substance. Q3 is fast-paced action, but also lacks substance. I can't comment on Farcry or Doom3, though.

2005 hasn't been the best year for games. 2004 sure as hell spoilt me, anyway. Hmm, Far Cry, Rome: Total War, HL2, and even Doom3 vs. ?
It's going to end with a bang, though. Civ4 is a sure thing for me.

I used to tinker more with my setup, but my latest config has made me a very happy man.
I haven't run 3Dmark since 2001, and don't feel any need to do so again.

I have no console (SNES died an ugly death, still mourning it). I'm actually surprised at how much I still enjoy playing Rome and DoD:S. I would've thought I'd be over it by now, but no.

I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum. I game alot and worry about hardware only a little bit. I like to keep up fairly well with technology which is why I check this site frequently. As an example, I buy a new gpu about every 2 years.

I like to game, but I use my best stuff for benching. I have 3 video cards at the moment, an old X800pro, an X850XT PE w/vmods and water cooled, and a 7800GTX. The 800pro is in my everyday system and the only one I game on. The other 2 get swapped in and out of my benching setup depending on what I'm running that day. I don't keep hw long, had the 7800 for about 3 weeks and am selling it now. Either it or the x850 had to go and the 850 is a much better card even if it isn't quite as fast. As soon as a new card comes out, I get one.... granted, I get them very cheap or for free... if you hold on to one too long it becomes worthless.... like my X800pro..:)

what a strange topic. While I do take an interest in hardware as it pertains to 3d Video cards, that interest only exists because I actually use the hardware to play games.

Without the games, the hardware is merely an extremely expensive door stop. It's kind of like being fascinated by cars but not actually driving them... (yes, I know such people exist, but I don't understand them at all).

I was walking to the gym one day with my weightlifting nut of a friend when he asked me how much I could bench. I replied "15k 3dmarks"

You know, when you fire up a game and all you can concentrate on is that yellow FRAPS fps counter instead of the game (hell I don't even know what game I'm playing half the time)...

If you've ever considered a job in Canada just so you can clock up your GPU 5% more in the winter, you deserve to join the club. I know I'm guilty.

It's hard to enjoy gaming these days with so few decent games coming out. Thank heavens for BF2.

It's not that I don't enjoy gaming anymore or enjoy the hardware more than gaming (I do lately thought) it's that the games coming out right now don't really appeal to me. BF2, DoD:S and the Fear MP demo are fun and all, and really push hardware, they're just boring games to me, more of the same... Games I really enjoy these days are few and far between. Games like Rome Total War, Fahrenheit, Psychonauts (the last two are console ports...) are what appeal to me lately.

I upgraded my PC not to long ago knowing I would probably change my pc gaming habits a lot over the next few months... I probably won't be upgrading my pc like I have in the past either... ~1 year.

With as much as I spend on PC components I could probably get a decent plasma TV or massive LCD tv and PS3 and still have money left over for games. I haven't played a console in maybe 3 years but I'm getting a streamlined PS2 and a bunch of games through work and I'm looking forward to it more than any of the new FPS games coming out.

Me and you both buddy. HOMM rocks.

Gaming for me hasnt been the same since HOMM 1/2, Warcraft 1/2 (couldnt get into 3), Civilization 1/2, Quake 1, Duke Nukem 3D, and everything that came before that back to the mid 80s and the Sierra/LucasArts classics.

There are a few games that I enjoy these days, Battlefield 2.. and I'm waiting on Quake4. Quake games always gave me that warm gaming buzz.

Other than that, we'll see how HOMM5 works out.
The consoles dont do it for me either, just my old NES is still fun.
