As far as criticizing someones gf, well you're an asshole. Unless your gf is a supermodel shut the hell up.

Even if your girlfriend is a supermodel (and really, who cares?), it's still rude to make nasty comments about someone else's looks. "If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all."

does anyone posting their gf's picture on here actually expect positive replies?

That he originally posted her pic was one thing but then coming back and posting another and reporting on beauty changes she'd made ie:blonde hair like he needed to appease people here disturbed the heck out of me. It also made me wonder if after long term exposure to this place if guys noticed they were becoming inceasingly disatisfied with their SO's appearance.

I agree that it's odd that he was showing her off... got a negative response... and posted ANOTHER picture of her and got more negative responses.

I also have to wonder how she would feel about having her picture posted on a forum without her knowledge for people to comment on. This guy is gonna be up sh!t creek if one of her friends happens to be a member here, or lurk here and shows these threads to her.

Can you imagine if one of her co-workers came across the thread and showed it to her ?
My god, the possible humilation is staggering !

Which begs the question... if you came across pictures of a friend or co-worker under the same circumstances, would you inform the friend or co-worker? Would you want to be informed if it was you? Hmmm...

You missed the point entirely.

I was simply stating that a lot of males have gotten this mindset of a certain type of woman and if a woman doesn't fit that stereotype, she is not wanted. Porn contributes a lot to this.

In the real world, women don't look like that. Many of these males are porn-o-holics and that creates a certain image for them of a woman.

Interestingly enough, I didn't really post (or I didn't even know about it yet, I can't quite remember) until after I broke up with my last serious g/f (2.5 years). The posts would've just made her look better to me as she could have made half of the kids on this board beg ;)

But letting a silly forum like this affect you in your relationships is foolish.

It's not males that have that mindset (at least not normal ones)... it's self concious females. It's their opinion that if a male watches porn, he expects his potential mate to look and act like the women in porn. You can't blame porn for men who like feminine women.

I'd say that judging from ther increasing number of really hostile comments made in response to pictures of perfectly normal fairly attractive women here that perhaps
women are becoming increasingly self-concious for good reason and I'm not even discussing porn, just pics posted here.

If people talk/act this way on line over time, how much does that attitude carry over
into their real 3D lives do you ? The sheer viciousness of some of the comments made in those 2 threads made me wince.

OMG no. The new trend is for the boys to get together and rag on their peers. Say it ain't so.

It has no effect on my life even when done in the 3D world I live in.

Nothing against the fine members of ATOT ;), but the opinions of people here shouldn't be given much consideration in the grand scheme of things. I actually wish women would stop trying to be what they think men want... for example... gobs of dark eyeliner won't transform someone from wildebeast to super model.

*EDIT* It's false advertising. Doing their best to look like a porn star, and then shaking your hand and sending you home for the night... :)

However, I don't think those threads are very nice. Some people are just plain viscious (sp?).

Traditionally boys get together to rag on their peers in settings where women aren't around. This online community is attracting more and more women as regular members
and as visitors.

My question in this thread was rather specific, "have the things you've seen/read here
influenced/altered your perceptions of your SO's appearance?" This question comes in response to the threads listed here earlier where a male poster's g/friend was ripped to shreds based on appearance.I'd kind of like to try to keep the subject on that topic, though your comments could be the start of another thread.

How much do events in the 2D world shape our expections for our lives in real time ?

anyone who posts a pic on ATOT runs the same risk. anyone who thinks they are immune or wants pity after getting bashed is a moron. you want to attention whore yourself, you run the risk of getting burned.

Since when is sharing a pic of a girl you like and talking about how much you like her
being an "attention whore" ?

I'm asking just straight up questions here because it occurs to me that we have a generation of young people who probably spend more leisure time online than they do engaging in any other recreational activities.

How does a world where imperfections can be photoshopped away and where unpleasant realities can be whisked away with the click of a mouse impact on young, still developing minds/personalties?

I can't get over why so many people insist on seeing pics then turn around and bash the person. Nor can I understand why anyone would post pictures after seeing this happen time after time.

A lot of people here, for whatever reason, get off on belittling others. Maybe it makes them feel better about themselves? I only know one person like that IRL (insults and belittles people all the time, but thinks he's being funny) and it's pretty sad. His life is a train wreck.

I'm not, I'm saying its the internet, and if you think you will take offense to people's stupid comments, you shouldn't post pics on the internet. he shouldnt be taking it so seriously what a bunch of nerds think about his girlfriend.
