I don't think it is a problem. I can think of one member for example that recently posted a pic of a potential girlfriend who wasn't exactly "hot" yet this same person has been known to bash others when they post pics. I agree ith you on the other factors but I think with the exception of very few true idiots everyone realizes that. It is simply tradition, as you stated, to haze your peers. Most people also realize that and don't take offense. Seems Ifestor held up pretty well and I think he expected some of the responses.
The only real problems is people who seek validation on the net or from anywhere other than themselves for that matter and that allows them to take offense. That is a personal problem and not an online community problem.
