First off, if you don't play games over 1024x768@32, and don't care about FSAA then don't get a GF3 or GF4. The GF3 and GF4 REALLY show their power at 1280x1024@32 and higher, not to mention FSAA runs great on these cards. MOST of these people b*tching about nVidia moving to fast still have a 17" monitor. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD MAN, upgrade your monitor to at least a 19"!! Sh*t, the 19" Sony G400 is going for about $350 now, that's about the price of a shiny new GF3 TI500! Once you have a nice size monitor you'll like to play at higher resolutions, as the lower res (1024x768@32) looks worse now on a bigger monitor. At this point you'll see that you're current video card (<GF3) is not performing as great as you thought it was. Well, that's when you'll look toward a GF4. 😉 I have a GF2 Pro running at about Ultra speeds and MAxPayne and RTCW can use a speed increase. However, when I pay $300 for a video card I want to see a BIG speed increase so I'm skipping a generation and going straight to a GF4. 😀
Long story short, if you have a small monitor (17" or less) and are happy running at resolutions of 1024x768@32 and lower, you'll be fine with a GF2 or less. But for the HIGH res guys (1600x1200@32) with ALL the features maxed out, you can NEVER have TOO FAST of a video card, or PC for that matter. 😉
