One laptop, one desktop and a good router are all I'll ever need.

In the past that was a home built router, these days the SOHO market supplies what I need.

I use to have 6+ for LAN weekends, Unreal Tournament +Doom +StarCraft +AoE
That went away a long time ago....

Three desktops; one notebook.

My apartment gets way too hot...three PCs running means too much heat output for this little place 🙁
 
seven. 1 server. 3 desktops upstairs. two laptops downstairs. 1 on the shelf needing repair. reasoning the laptops are old and their battery life is pretty much gone. so we leave them downstairs for my wife and the kids. the 3 desktops are simply because my wife has all of our finances setup on her PC, my gaming rig (ubuntu/XP) is upstairs and i have a test box running for various linux flavors as well as download/hide all of my pr0n since my wife has no access to this box whatsoever 🙂
 
I have 2 laptops (1 work, 1 personal), 3 Desktops (HomeServer, Gaming/Video & Portable & LAN rig that gets HTPC use) There's also a 1.8GHz P4 in the corner that never gets any love.
