No it's not.

I'll let a korean person explain this:
"Gangnam Style" is a Korean language colloquialism that refers to a luxurious lifestyle associated with the Gangnam district,[9] an affluent area of Seoul,[10] where people are trendy, hip and exude a certain supposed "class". The term was listed in Time's weekly vocabulary list as a manner associated with lavish lifestyles in Seoul

Actually it's about a city named Gangnam. Sorts like Beverly hills. Where the rich live and get limited edition clothing and such.

no its not. he just uses that part of the city to explain what he is trying to say. just like we have songs about beverly hills. weezer did one, which is VERY much the same theme as gangnam style song

plus Gangnam mean South of the River (Gang = River, Nam = South)

The guy has actual talent, true wit, and doesn't take himself seriously. He may not gain lasting, large-scale commercial fame here, but he will always have a strong "cult" following, because he's not an empty "leisure" suit. ;)

This is not an exact analogy at all, but I see him as some cross between Weird Al and Frank Zappa.

I wish the guy every success in the world.

That is just what I wrote on my friend's FB just few minutes ago.

Unlike typical manufactured boy / girl bands of Korea (and US too), Psy produces, writes, choreographs all his stuff. This isn't some new kid rising to fame. Psy is on his 6th album currently.

Check this out, him at live concert NOT doing Gangnam:

He effin' RAPES them. I mean, look at the SHEER energy. This man knows how to rock.

What do you guys think of Jeremy Lin? 25 games fluke from last year or... is he really that good? I've been reading up on espn comments on Lin and there are a lot of Knicks fans who are bitter that he left. LOL.

wow, diverse age group too

Only if you could understand the lyrics... that's where all the fun is.. So many puns and disses.

"You 10-cent prostitute, stop kiddin' around. You turned me into a bird." (slang for getting rejected by a girl) etc etc..

Psy is known to be a controversial rapper, full of sex and inappropriate stuff. Gangnam Style is a tame family bit which isn't like him normally.

Well if he were to die right now he'd probably be considered alongside John Lennon, Kurt Cobain, and Jimi Hendix as a "musical genius who died too young". Hell I think dying right at this moment would be the only thing that could save his career.

So, I realize PSY attended college in the States, I guess he's fluent in english, but the audience for this song is Korean and I was just wondering what portion of them would even know what "Hey Sexy Lady" meant?

lots of american dialogue used in K/Jpop, half of which doesn't make sense.

psy= hyped because of his work over years

jeremy lin= hyped because he was bad his whole career, suddenly had a couple good games and the media created the insanity (yes, insanity is a real word)

and to answer your question directly- jeremy lin sucks on an nba level. most players and coaches are SHOCKED he got the deal he just got. i know i am.

much of the world starts teaching kids english around age 8, despite what their native language is. i dont know if its like that in korea, but i bet most koreans know what that means by now. and i doubt its bad omen like it is in america. sex here is just plain evil and gross.

Who wouldn't know what 'hey sexy lady' means except maybe remote amazonian tribes?

English and Western pop culture is quite prevalent in Asia. Even if they're not good at English, they'd know most famous phrases, especially from movies and etc.

You know how us Americans know quite a bit of Spanish and French phrases just naturally? (cliche, comprende, deja vu, viola, mi casa tu casa, etc)

It's like that for English for Asians.. except better.
