My local pop station played the entire song.. during their nightly countdown of the top songs.. LOL

Heh - I heard it last night on a local station as well. I think it still has some mileage left

If there is any justice in this world: maybe 1 month before it dies out, with a few idiotic die-hards forcing it for another couple months. See: William Hung.

Because there is obviously NO justice in this world: Well, it's been popular for over a month already so I guess we're stuck with this shit for the next five years like Rickroll and Chuck Norris.

I like him. The comparisons to William Hung aren't really fair, since this guy has some talent. He's fun, and his dance is hilarious to watch people do.

wont die. this guy is legit. he has lots of talent and he is very smart. the song is a fad, but its supposed to be. the translation equates to him making fun of korea's new lifestyle. basically american life, where all the girls are glamorous and everyone has turned materialistic. gangnum style!

its basically the korean equivalent to a pop eminem hit. theres a reason why its catching so much international fame, because its actually good.

It apparently started in early July, but the media finally picked up on it in the past few weeks, so it "really" started in September.

The continued success says as much about how people have embraced Psy as have been embracing this song imo. He's obviously not a douchebag and seems like a genuinely fun hard working artist. I think people appreciate seeing that in him. As a result he keeps getting asked to do more media visits...even tho they have no idea what the hail he's singing about. :D

Actually it's about a city named Gangnam. Sorts like Beverly hills. Where the rich live and get limited edition clothing and such.

Actually it's about a city named Gangnam.

No it's not.

I'll let a korean person explain this:

<-- Korean

You couldn't be more wrong.

Seoul is a mega metropolis boasting 10 million people, 11th largest in the world (US' largest is NYC at 7 mil).

Seoul%281%29.jpg

The city is divided by Han Gang (Han River).

seoulmetro.jpg

The city north of Han River/Gang is Gang-Buk (North of River).

The city south of Han River/Gang is Gang-Nam (South of River).

Gang-Nam is a very affluent part of Seoul with ritzy shops, high rise condos, the best of Seoul's nightlife, etc.

When you say 'Gang-Nam style', that's equivalent of saying 'Hollywood style' or 'Bel-Air style', meaning hip/fly/high class.

Oppa means older brother, used by younger girls. It actually doesn't mean blood related, but an affectionate term for any older men by younger girls.

Oppan means 'Oppa is'. The artist Psy is referring to himself as a third person, presumably talking to a younger girl he's trying to impress.

Oppan Gangnam Style = Your man is Hollywood Style

I haven't paid attention to the lyrics, but it sounds to be typical meaningless pop stuff about how he's fly and he loves this girl, let's party, etc.
